The "NEW" House Debt Bill...
..apparently calls for a partial debt limit increase now, and a further increase next year only after a Balanced Budget Amendment is approved by both the House and Senate{/b].

Even Talking Points Memo is calling this "delusional"

1. And what happens when the Balanced Budget Amendment isn't passed?

Just minutes after President Obama urged the parties to come together and avert this default crisis, things are actually going backwards in the House. And in pretty incredible fashion.

To secure enough votes from his own members for his plan, Speaker Boehner is amending it to basically turn it into Cut, Cap, and Balance Lite.

Here's the key new provision that is apparently going to win enough GOP votes to pass the bill:

The debt ceiling would be raised immediately but not by enough to get the government through next year. To get the second debt ceiling increase, House Republicans want a balanced budget constitutional amendment to pass both chambers first and be referred to the states.

3. Even if this passes, it won't pass in the Senate, so it's
not worth being concerned about. Boehner is just trying to save his phony-baloney job as Speaker. He's a lost cause. This is a Republican Party showdown. It's a pity that it's being done at this point. But that's what it is. Boehner is trying to maintain the support of the teabaggers, even though that was lost some time ago. It's a desperation move, and it's irrelevant to the crisis as something that might actually become law. Time to see what Harry Reid's up to.

4. They make a legislative decision contingent on a successful vote on something else
So, if the BBA fails in either House, we never see another dent limit increase while they're in office?

They're a bunch of fucking idiots.
