MSN poll: Obama blamed for debt ceiling mess
There's a lot of blame to go around, but many MSN Money readers say the president deserves most of it.

Who's to blame for the debt ceiling controversy that has engulfed Washington, D.C.? MSN Money readers say it's President Barack Obama.

The unscienfitic poll, which debuted Wednesday on MSN Money's homepage, found that almost half of readers who participated thought Obama "deserves the greatest blame for the debt ceiling deadlock." As of 5 p.m. ET Thursday, with about 6,600 votes cast, 48% of voters pointed the finger at the Democratic president.

"Tea Party activists" were second on the list, with 21% blaming the conservatives for the stalemate. U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio -- who has spent the week trying to marshall Tea Party-supporting House members behind his plan, was third in the blame game with 14%.

The MSN Money poll results contrasted with many assessments of the issue. For example, a USA Today poll today found that four in 10 Americans approved of Obama's handling of the crisis, compared with three in 10 who said Boehner was doing the best job.

With next Tuesday's deadline looming, Republicans and Democrats haven't been able to agree on the best course of action to raise the debt ceiling. Both sides have offered up deep spending cuts but differ on some important
