Harry Potter and Star Wars actor convicted of indecent exposure

An actor who appeared in the Harry Potter and Star Wars films has been given a suspended 20-week jail term for indecently exposing himself to a teenager on a train.

Former pantomime star Nicholas Read, who played an Ewok in Return of the Jedi, was told by a judge that a suspended sentence would offer the best opportunity for rehabilitation.

Read, of Cheadle, north Staffordshire, was convicted of indecent exposure last month after a 17-year-old girl told Leicester crown court how the actor performed a sex act under the cover of a juggler's hat.

Read was shown mercy by recorder Richard Bond despite having previous convictions for sexual offences, including an incident in which he climbed into the bed of a stage manager and his girlfriend.

Is there really an epidemic of people acting out sexually? Anyone have any statistics?

Is there an epidemic of media focus on it? Any statistics there? I know there's lots of opinions.

Have we perhaps been secretly and hypocritically tolerating it all these years, and now just quit?

WTF? Why are so many 'news' stories about someone diddling themselves, someone else, an inanimate object, an animal, or an imaginary being?

He has previous convictions, not just charges. For offenses that don't seem horribly bad so much as stupidly inappropriate. Which sort of implies he's probably stupidly inappropriate in ways that DON'T break the law equally often or more so.

Well, as Diamond Dave once said, "I am not this way, the way I am, because I am in a band. I am in a band, because I am this way." He should have went into music instead of movies. Then it would have happened on the tour bus and no one would have noticed.
