Can we please be serious for even a little while?
On MSNBC, while interviewing some talking head, there is a "breaking" crawl at the bottom of the screen.

"Rob Kardashian confirmed to have joined Dancing With The Stars."

The other day, our local nooz ran as their opening story the agreement in the NFL labor agreement. The second story was the debt ceiling.

"Serious" has new meaning in today's media.

1. The debt ceiling is a complex story...
the Kardashians are not...

The NFL story should be a compex story... but it's been simplified to YAY we are gonna have a season!

Their viewers are there to be honest.

3. Infotainment rules the day.
Al Franken brilliantly coined that phrase way back in the nineties.
It is more true today than then.

4. The cable news networks want to appeal to all types of people
Including those who care more about DWTS than the debt ceiling. And there are plenty of them.

6. Distraction so they they can finish the destruction. They're SO close to their goal.
:(

Pay no attention to the downfall of your country.

7. The MSM is just as bad as the politicians they cover. The "news" channels are complete jokes.

10. I think between commercials and "popcorn brain" the answer is, "No". We
can't be serious for very long, at all. Our entertainment lifestyle lets us concentrate for about twenty minutes....tops. Then we see a Cialis commercial or maybe Preparation H. With handheld electronics things must be a-poppin' like crazy or they're no fun. I know it doesn't apply to everyone but many are being impacted, imo.

11. Right now the crawl is re: the soldier who wanted to explode two bombs in Army base
It would be story number 1 if he had succeeded, but it's a ho-hum yawner now.

12. When the oceans start rising we'll see serious.
As morbid as it is, I almost want to live long enough to witness "serious". Debt ceiling cat is watching us as we play.
