Poll question: How will you deal with the sudden collapse of the economy on Tuesday?
As well all know, Tuesday the USA will default on its bills, our economy will collapse and all our assets will be worthless. What will we do to get by during that time?

27. I guess that would depend on from where they get it.
If it's mountain melt like NYC uses, you're in good shape. If it's treated in any way, that might be a problem. Here in Akron, our water comes from Lake Erie. There's plenty of it, but it requires an active processes to filter and treat it (I mean, it's Lake Erie!) and then to pump it to neighborhoods and businesses. And as we discovered when we had that big black-out, there's no back-up system.

I just hope this thing is worked out without giving everything away to the Republicans.

My neighbors who lived in the 1930s seem very calm.

This was coming, the Republicans were out of control.

I hope the adults step in and take over.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/44/World_map_of_countries_by_rate_of_unemployment.svg

For wealthy and middle income countries that is a poor number, most of latin america is under 10%. Countries with 30% unemployment tend to be ravaged by war, run by terrible governments or are failed states.

47. Stay the course.
Prepare for death with dignitiy.

I have never received a dime of unemployment, SS, nor medicare or medicaid nor any other public benefit except I was a Fed from 1969 to 1986 and had university scholarships at Cal and OSU and attended a year of of grad education as a GS-9/11 in the early 1980s.

I am unemployed/unemployable and unhealthy without insurance.

The life of my parents (no roads/electricy as children, depression, prohibition, and WWII eras), or grandparents or great grandparents are similiar what I would experience if the grid and USA society should fail.

The foolishness or complicity of Congress and the stupidity or complicity of the POTUS Obama WH are irrelevant (but complicit) to my situation.

I am prepared and in the space to pass on and leave an irregular Estate monkey wrenched to favor a Tribe (that shares blood) over WASP blood relatives and the governments that have broken every social contract I was taught to assume.

I hope to live 20 plus years but conditions of health may limit to less than 6 months. I will die and gift a boobytrap before being a victim.

51. Go to norway and commit a non-violent crime to go to prison
Edited on Fri Jul-29-11 07:27 PM by Juche
Their prisons aren't too bad from what the news has been saying.

Israel supposedly has humane prisons too (but that could be wrong). I think we are reaching a point where being in prison in a more humane/responsible/progresive OECD nation offers a better lifestyle than being free in the US if you are working poor. Not to make light of the massacre in Norway though, so no offense if it comes across that way.

"That is an exaggeration". In some ways yes, in some no life in a prison in a humane OECD country might be better. They have reliable health care, live in a country run by responsible people where plutocracy is in retreat and the rule of law actually applies to everyone (not just the bottom 99%), no fear of homelessness or starvation, free access to education, etc.

It beats living in your car and not being able to afford to see the doctor.

If the economy fails, our credit card bank will no longer get paid because it is part of the problem. And then we will use that money to pay off our car faster. These days when you go to buy a car, lots of places don't even pull your credit. Ruin my credit. I don't give a shit.

Yeah, I have that much in cash for exactly two days after I receive my SSD check at the beginning of the month. Maybe I just won't pay my rent if I get what might be my very last one on Monday for awhile.

Can't be evicted w/o a court order and there might not be any "courts" by the time the company that owns the condo that we are renting, realizes that I ain't paying my rent and hires or uses their lawyer. Just a $25.00 fee if I am late after the 5th of the month, which I can probably deal with if necessary. Eat or pay the rent...hmmm...what a dilemma.

73. Swim out past the breakers, and watch the world die

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWW4Gj771Wg

I am still livin' with your ghost
Lonely and dreamin' of the west coa-oast
I don't wanna be your dow-own ti-ime
I don't wanna be your stupid game

With my big black boots and an old suitcase
I do believe I'll find myself a new pla-ace
I don't wanna be the ba-ad guy-y
I don't wanna do your sleepwalk dance anymore
I just wanna see some pa-alm tree-ees
Go and try and shake away this disease

We can live beside the ocean, leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers, watch the world die-ie
We can live beside the ocean, leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers, watch the world die-ie

I am still dreamin' of your face
Hungry and hollow for all the things you took away
I don't wanna be your goo-ood ti-ime
I don't wanna be your fall-back crutch anymore

I'll walk right out into a brand new day
Insane and risin' in my own weird way-ay
I don't wanna be the ba-ad guy-y-y
I don't wanna do your sleepwalk dance anymore
I just wanna feel some su-unshi-i-ine
I just wanna find some place to be alone

We can live beside the ocean, leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers, watch the world die-ie
We can live beside the ocean, leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers, watch the world die-ie
We can live beside the ocean, leave the fire behind
Swim out past the breakers, watch the world die
We can live beside the ocean, leave the fire behi-i-ind
Swim out past the breakers, Watch the world die

Oh, yeah, watch the world die
Yeah-eah, yeah, watch the world die
Woh-oh-oh, yeah, watch the world die
Yeah, watch the world die
