Teaparty Spokesman lying about Obama on the BBC
Ok, laying in bed half listening to the BBC (BBC 5) and suddenly became aware they had an american on, who was discussing the shooting with the host. I don't know who the person was, because I came in the middle, but rest assured I find out, and try to get audio, am going to the bbc site after this.

The spokesman was being asked about teaparty connections, and the atmosphere of violence rhetoric surrounding the right. He totally discounted it, and said it did not exist, Arizona and the teaparty was a model of tolerance and open discussion, and then he said, (and I WILL be searching for audio), if anything outlandish was said or done, it was all ok since President Obama once said "they bring a knife, we bring a gun."

The host was stunned into silence. End of story. On one of the highest rated news shows in the UK

sorry for being messy, I've only had a few hours sleep, and turned on the BBC to help lule me into sleep, but just could not believe this....

2. Yep, that's what the teabaggers are focused on since Saturday...

That's their talking point.

3. Actually, Obama did say that, during the campaign in June 2008...

I remember when he said it and was disturbed by it at the time, although I knew what he was trying to do:

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2008/06/14/obama-if-they-bring-a-knife-to-the-fight-we-bring-a-gun/

I think it would be good if he would express regret for having used that verbiage, even though it's the only time (I believe) he's done so.

As I told my teabagger friends/family (the few who remain in contact), there is no comparison. They give examples of one instance of someone in the national spotlight having misspoken or using poor judgment in the words used, as well as examples of nasty rhetoric said by others no one even knows, whereas the Tea Party crowd makes violent rhetoric their mantra -- politicians and very public figures. They're normally proud of it, until there's a chance they're going to be held accountable.

5. Democrats have used the rhetoric of war in politics though
I mean we know they have (Rahm Emmanual for example). We are such a militarized society it would be surprising if they didn't. That doesn't make it right of course, and Conservatives and Tea Partiers are the ones talking revolution.

7. Agreed. It would set a good precedent, imho....
if President Obama would not only condemn the vitriol, as he has done already, but acknowledge he has used it himself and regrets it, even if it was only one sentence, said one time.

Accept responsibility and be accountable, which is something the right-wingers have COMPLETELY forgotten how to do.

It would be a great example of strength.

:hi:

4. i am still trying to find some audio
the whole tone was surreal. The teaparty has never, never had a violent thought or made a violent action, but if they had, it would have been justified, because of the big scary black man in the white house.

That is exactly what it sounded like.

6. I KNOW Arizona teaparty members and am familiar with one of the founders. Bull. Fucking. Shit.
Their idea of tolerance is not smashing your car windows in for having an "Obama" sticker on your bumper.

8. These people are calling Rep. Giffords dad a liar. He said himself the Tea Party is her enemy.
Pontius Palin and the tea party have been using their gun theme since the President's election.

They cannot wash their hands of what is on record.
