Repubs willing to pass a clean debt increase bill in exchange...
for a passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment bill which will then be sent to the states?

Been watching CNN and heard from a couple of Repubs that they believe there would be support from their side for that.

13. They don't see ANY bills they pass. Remember Fahrenheit 911? "Sit down my son"
Congressman Conyers responded: “Sit down, my son . . . uh . . . We don’t read most of the bills. Do you really know what that would entail, if we were to read every bill that we pass?”

2. Yeah, coverage for what most states will blow out their collective asses.
It provides pukes cover.. and leaves it up to states like they love.. and for now nothing gets attatched.. the debt ceiling just goes up without crazy cuts to grandma.

3. Senator you can have my answer now, if you like.
My final offer is this: NOTHING,
Not even the fee for the gaming license, which I would appreciate if you would put up personally.

6. Why not?
It will fail miserably in the states, and even if it does not, in years when there is a shortfall, taxes will have to be raised. I would say sure...let's do it.

10. My understand is that is close but not correct...

they're willing to pass a clean bill in exchange for a BBA ratified by the states. It's a CYA move, they know they won't have to pay up because any BBA is DOA in at-least 13 state legislatures.

It's the same as the second arm of debt-ceiling raises in the Boehner bill; that too requires a ratified BBA.

Also, there's no way a BBA will be ratified before Tuesday.

12. I think you're mistaken
Both people were clear when they said it just has to pass Congress to be then sent out to the states. Watching MSNBC now and a reporter said the same thing.

14. I'm in DC and hearing it from the horse's ass.

By which I mean the drunken staffers (correction: they're mostly interns and low-level lackeys) with whom I cavort of the members of Congress supporting it. The Boehner bill explicitly says ratification for releasing the second wave of debt-ceiling increase. They're under the impression that any proposed U/D clean bill would be the same terms.

Also, I'm being mocked for teetotalling. Take-away: My friends are drunken conservative asshats, I need new friends. Also, DU is hard to do on a Blackberry Curve.

15. Here's the wording:
"the archivist of the United States has submitted to the states for their ratification a proposed amendment to the Constitution of the United States pursuant to a joint resolution entitled 'Joint resolution proposing a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution of the United States.'"

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2011/07/29/balanced-budget-amendment-appeases-house-conservatives-frightens-economists/

I don't see anything in there where it says the amendment must be ratified; just submitted to the states.
