Up or down wote on the debt then get down to the business of Governing. The Republicans can't touch the Social insurance programs through any other means that's why they want a deal.

22. He ain't gonna filibuster. He's just posturing for negotiation. |
|
When he finds out he can't stop a few republicans from voting for Reid's bill, he'll cave.
When Reid's bill gets a couple of republican votes, the democrats can then say the Reid bill is "bi-partisan" while Boehner's bill was not. At that point, the democrats will be able to do whatver is necessary, impeachment notwithstanding, to do what is necessary to avoid disaster.

9. I don't think the 14th helps us, but he may have to do it by decree... |
|
...as a kind of emergency measure pursuant to his executive powers. It will be unconstitutional as hell, but hey, it's not like that's a first for us.

Let's have it put on record that the Rs filibustered the bill. Then pull out the 14th and use it. But FFS, don't cave just because they SAY they'll filibuster.

19. Duh.. did anyone think he would not.. Shame on our leadership |
|
for dropping the ball on the anti-filibuster thing when we had the chance.. remember when they were going to change the rules?...and then didn't.
Our leadership goes to "battle" armed with marshmallow pop guns and warnings that stern words will be uttered in sotto voce.. republicans come with heat seeking missiles & ear plugs & bullhorns.
they "win" because they are bold and never back down (even if their cause is ridiculous, stupid, dangerous and pure evil)
we "lose" because we are tentative, we telegraph our every intention, we aim to be their "friends", we always fight from a defensive position, we start any negotiation by surrendering ..
we cannot really complain though.. If you ran an ad that read :
Car for sale:asking $15K..(will take 2K), can you be upset that no one offered more than $1500.00?
