This goes much deeper than their hatred of Obama

Those claiming to be a part of the imaginary "Tea Party" aren't just hating that Obama is President.

After nearly 30 years of Rush Limbaugh and other lying hatemongers spewing their venomous anti-government propaganda over the airwaves...
After years of FOX network actively making up the news and one sided nonsense...
The theme is simple: "It's the Government's fault".
This mythical "government", a simpleton's version, which has captivated the reactionaries and channeled their frustrations into this confused mess we now see as the Tea Party (which isn't an official party at all).
It's about hating government and being so brainwashed in that hatred that the true string-pullers, the uber wealthy that have bought our government away from us go unchallenged by these brainless rightwingers.

Now we have a Tea Party caucus in the House that by all accounts has freshmen members who do not even understand the procedural processes of Congress.
They want our government to crash.
The corporate sponsored Limbaugh, FOX, and all have been planting these seeds for years and we are now seeing the results.
It's harvest time.

26. If they hate the govt, don't they hate the US?
They see the bulk of Americans (middle/lower class) as trying to get their money through taxes. They care about the individual but not the plurality. That is the huge cultural difference between the US and much of the rest of the work, except Somalia: individual vs. community. In the US, the individual is king.

27. No. This default WILL have terrible financial implications.
This is pure ideology. It is why they will not accept ANY deal. They believe they must destroy it all, and then, from the ashes, like the phoenix, a new Amerika wil rise. Their Amerika would look a lot like Sharia run countries, only the King James Bible takes the place of the Koran.

35. They will, but that's beside the point
A person with $30 or $40 million in net worth could lose 75 percent of it--and the way those guys' financials are structured, they probably WILL lose 75 percent of it, the part that exists as numbers on a computer screen--and still be okay. Forget the "more than you will ever see" meme--it's more than everyone living within a mile of my house will ever see.

A person with $300 or $400 in the bank couldn't lose 75 percent of it and last very long.

9. I thought this was common knowledge here on this forum.
You summed it up well.

There is a component that is searching for a scapegoat to facilitate their mental distress, if I may call it that. I saw evidence of it when the so-called news channels were spouting their mantra of "Saddam". These same people were running around with his name on the tips of their tongues.

And then there is Norway. The cancer that is the conservative population of America are the ones to blame for the debt this country faces. Much of it. They let Bush in to the White House. They didn't join us to challenge the invasion of Iraq. I'm proud to say that I was one of very few who after 9/11 spoke up the way Norway has. Not with revenge. Not with might. But with brains. With a sense of reality. No, we went Bachmann crazy. This is what we got in exchange.

All of what you said is true. But the other component is a blind and stupid obedience to authority. And authority is almost always perverted.

10. You shouldn't be at all surprised
If you read "Atlas Shrugged," you'd know that the absolute and total destruction of the American experiment in democracy by destroying its economy has always been the goal of the extreme right wing. This is what the puppetmasters -- the Kochs and their ilk -- want.

And just as Dagny Taggart abandoned the supremely loyal Eddie Willers, so too will the rightwing leaders abandon their "supporters" when the time comes.

Understand that these people are evil, as evil as Hitler. They learned from his mistakes, however. We didn't.

13. I do think there's a certain 'death cult' quality about them.
The Tea Party has a lot of overlap with Christian fundamentalists, so I suppose it shouldn't be surprising. They seem to have a fascination with destroying the modern world.

33. Christianity can fairly be called a death cult
and the "end times" fundies are open about and proud of the fact they are. They want to destroy the world to bring back jeebus. They may well destroy this country, and possibly even the world if given enough time. But jeebus ain't comin' back cos he was never here in the first place.

15. I give you, as evidence, this status that is floating around Facebook;
"Over 5000 years ago, Moses said to Israel, 'Pick up your shovels, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land.'

When Welfare was introduced, Roosevelt said, 'Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a Camel, this is the Promised Land.'

Today, the government has stolen your shovel, taxed your ass, raised the price of Camels, and mortgaged the Promised Land to China."

----------------------

Note that Roosevelt is specifically named as to be responsible for welfare for the needy but when it comes to financially destroying the country, they conveniently leave out Bush's name and give ownership to all of Government.

18. Anyone browsing RW websites and blogs can read and "feel" the hate emanating from their posts
about our government, socialism, liberals, minorities, Muslims, ect..

Never signed up for a FB membership, but from what I have been able to read, that doesn't require logging in, it is much the same, if what I can't is even worse, I suppose.

sheriff is riding into town...

In the case of the teabaggers, sure their crap is rooted basically in the Reaganesque "government is bad, government is the problem," mold, but make no mistake, their bigotry came out and they were pushed over the edge when Obama was elected.

24. Yep, why today I recommended to anybody who
has no idea of the end goal, to go spend some time at Free Republic and it IS one of the least dangerous and radical sites. I could recommend two more, but that breaks DU rules. Yes they make FR look like rank beginners.

Now as to the tea party... yes functionally IT IS a party... it meets every iota of a definition and SHOULD be forced to register as such and run as such in all fifty states.

the edge. I think it was the catalyst to the craziness we are seeing.

They do not love this country and they are terrorist. Grover Norquist should be seen as a threat to this country. Repugs and Teapartiers are signing pledges to him? Isn't that treason....?

They still had syrup, nuts, ice cream, and even a cherry for the top.

There was definitely going to be a sundae, come hell or high water.
