Coloumnist in local weekly paper: Welfare recipients should not be allowed to vote |
|
http://www.peshtigotimes.net/?id=17138We like to hold our elected officials accountable, or pretend we do. For example, except for very small jobs, town officials are prohibited from serving on a board that hires them, awards contracts to them, or buys things from them. Conflict of interest.
If an immediate family member works for the town and collects a paycheck, that official is not allowed to vote on their hiring, work conditions, salary or benefits. They have to abstain. Conflict of interest.
Therefore, consider this: Shouldn’t people who collect government welfare checks be prohibited from voting as a condition of receiving their checks? After all, that too is conflict of interest.
Make no mistake, lots of folks who collect government welfare would go hungry without it, and many, many of them are good hard working people who are down on their luck, or they really do suffer from illnesses and disabilities.
No problem, but are they inclined to cast their ballots for whoever will get them the best benefits?
When folks who live on government checks of one type or another outnumber those who do not, we’re all in trouble, because eventually politicians will run out of other people’s money, and they certainly don’t want to be spending their own. What a disgusting person. Further down is another repeat of the old "steak and lobster bough with food stamps" shit that's been floating around since Reagan.

2. No one who benefits from government should be allowed to vote!!!!11 |
|
It's a conflict of interest when we, um... govern ourselves and uh, participate and stuff.
We didn't form a government of, by and for the people to benefit... the, uh, um... the people!!

|
Who believe that only employed or self-employed income/property-owning taxpayers should be allowed to register to vote.
Think I remember one of them I read that mentioned it, was that hateful, loathsome scumbag rightwinger whackjob Doug Giles, several years ago but I'm not completely certain.

Or drive on public streets? Or depend on fire or police departments for protection?
In other words - everyone.

10. This type of thinking is similar to how it was when welfare |
|
was called "relief checks" which came every week or so. The rules were that you could not even have a radio if you collected a check. This was around 1940 and my mom was 10 years old. She knew she got $2.50 for her needs in addition to supplemental food once a month. She remembers demanding her $2.50 because she wanted to visit her cousin who had been placed in an orphanage. There was not much in the way of "steak and lobster" then and there isn't much now either. Her cousin's mom lost her kids because she could not find a job after she had suffered a stroke. I can't help feeling that our country is headed in the wrong direction.

11. "Shouldn't people who collect government welfare checks be prohibited from voting..." |
|
....should reporters drawing a salary from a corporation whos' political interest is to support people and policies that reduce their taxes thereby forcing everyone else to pay more, be prohibited from voting?
....some choose to promote self-interest and profit from sleaze while others do not choose to run out of luck and fall on hard times....the elective former shouldn't be allow to vote, while the involuntary later should....

12. welfare recipients = blacks and mexicans |
|
I seriously doubt he considers all the white conservatives who are 65+ and dependent on medicare, SS and medicaid as welfare recipients. Or all the middle class parents who rely on public education to educate their kids.
Its always the same shit just packaged differently.

I remember one column she wrote where she encouraged parents to make or purchase Halloween costumes made of synthetic fibers because they do not "burn as easily" if a mishap with a jack 'o lantern were to occur. Shae also once said the mercury in fish was dangerous to humans because it "had a lot of lead in it"
