Al Sharpton made a very good point earlier today on his MSNBC show regarding the deficit ...
I don't have an exact transcript, but what Al basically was saying was that ...

The republicans are saying that President Obama 'can not' use the 14th amendment because President Obama is 'not' allowed to spend money, they are saying that 'only' Congress can spend money.

So, Al said if that is what the republicans truly believe to be correct then the republicans can NOT blame any of the deficit on Obama because it is NOT Obama that spent the money it is CONGRESS that spent the money.

That's something to think about and also some thing to use any time a republican tries to blame the deficit on President Obama :)

2. Very few GOP supporters understand this. Congress passes legislation to spend money,
now they are refusing a debt limit increase to borrow money to spend that money. Which is of course why raising the limit was never an issue before.

Most GOP supporters seem to believe raising the debt limit is giving Obama a blank check. It is simply allowing them to write checks for the crap Congress is spending money on.

3. Yes, he is right.
Congress appropriates the money. As the Executive, it is the President's job to make sure Congress's appropriations are carried out! Congress approved the money to be spent - now they want to welch on their deals!
