This is War. Whoever Saves Medicare and Social Security WINS
Right now we are witnessing the prelude to a run on Social Security and Medicare. Investment bankers in league with elected politicians are attempting to scare the crap out of Americans. They are using the corporate media to tell them (over and over and over again) that Medicare is doomed! and Social Security is going bust!

Why? They hope that if they repeat these big lies often enough, American workers will begin to believe them, the way they once believed Colin Powell and George Bush about Sadaam’s WMDs.

Investments bankers want working class America to abandon Social Security and hand its savings over to JP Morgan and Goldman-Sachs and next year’s Bernard Madoff. They are praying that Americans forget the pension money that the banksters lost in the 2008 financial meltdown---$3.3 trillion---so that they can get their greedy little hands on the $890 billion we contribute each year to Social Security.

http://www.cbo.gov/ftpdocs/120xx/doc12039/HistoricalTables%5B1%5D.pdf

Just imagine what kind of bonuses the CEOs of banks could pay themselves with that kind of money. They would not have to worry about early withdrawals. By law all that money would be theirs for up to 51 years---assuming that the retirement age does not rise above 67. And if their investments go bad (as they have done so often in the past), they can always get Congress to raise the retirement age to 70 or 75---

There is just one problem with this scheme. Americans like Social Security. They like Medicare. They do not want to topple these two programs the way they once wanted to topple mean old Sadaam. If another voice, one that is calm and rationale, tells them “Your money is safe in Social Security. And Medicare will have your back when you are old and sick”, they will listen to that second voice. The will listen because they want to believe, and they will believe because it is the truth.

The Democratic message---from the White House as well as Congress---must be that Social Security is safe and Medicare is dependable. The message must be “We will do anything to protect these programs.” Any Democrat who says anything different is stabbing his or her party in the back. Any Democrat who says "Be very, very afraid of Social Security" is exactly the same as those Congressional Democrats who voted to give Bush the authorization to go to war with Iraq.

3. So how do we get the low-info voters in this country
to understand that the "Facsict/Marxist/Nazi/Socialist Dictator" in the white house (aka "the black guy") isn't working night and day to take away all of their money with his (soon to be) shiny new 'debt ceiling blank checkbook'?

I think I will just go beat my head against the wall now. Be back later...

11. The President's sound bites become "Social Security first!" and "Medicare is secure!"
Everyday. All day. He does not give the mainstream media anything else to quote.

17. They understand. My father's crazy wife -
who is a low-info fundy has even figured this one out. She is on disability and went off on a rant the other day about republicans wanting to take away her disability check. She may be a little crazy but she's not that stupid.

8. But the only 'calm voices' I am hearing saying that SS is not
going broke, are Bernie Sanders and Alan Grayson so far.

I'm afraid it's a done deal. This President told the G20 that SS contributes to the Deficit. That is false. Nor have I heard him say 'SS is OFF the table, it is solvent unless this Govt fails, and then nothing will be solvent'. Not ever.

And I do not believe that Republicans were pushing for cuts to SS as they want to be reelected also.

I know one thing, no Democrat would ever propose cuts to SS.

9. "no Democrat would ever propose cuts to SS."
Thats probably why its safe to assume Obama wont touch it as its the ultimate 3rd rail if they were to abolish SS and he and the dems know it.
I also believe that alot of the older members of the gop in office know it to but have painted themselves into a corner by allying to close with the tea party nuts who either dont realize the economic impact of what they are playing with, dont care about the impact or imagine in their delusional little minds that this will play out like the government shutdown in the 90s did for the gop.

27. "No Democrat" is exactly right.
We need to tear Obama down! We must make it clear to the electorate that Obama is a FAKE Democrat, an employee of the Koch Brothers. We must do this quickly so that we can mount a primary challenge or a viable third party candidate.

30. Thank you for your concern.
A third party siphoning off the left is exactly what the Koch brothers want.

So good of you to speak for them.

12. K&R. I'm afraid the lies will win.
Come the election, each party will run out its scary monsters to scare the sheeple into the polls. We are too afraid to stand up for what is right because we fear the horrible. Hence we elect the dreadful and celebrate.

13. You tell them, Harry!!!

"I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the Fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign."

---President Harry Truman

by REJECTING Obama's offer during the last round of "negotiations.

I'll have to write him a Thank You note.

22. This is what happens when a party caves in over and over to the Repblicans.
The Republicans get braver and braver.

I just don't blame the President either, his fellow Democrats cave also.

I am proud see the Democrats in Congress standing up now.

This caving in gave us the 2010 election results.

At some point you have to stand and fight, even if you don't have the votes.

If you don't you are seen as a coward.

24. Way to go congress, - you made a disabled vet cry.
Had a call from a disabled vet - his back is broken. He was crying about what our country had become, his fear that he would not get his social security check,
that his house would go into foreclosure, he would have no home, and what about his kids future?

He said that the govt has turned its back on the people who built this country.

Further, this gentleman paid into the social security system since for decades, and now our govt wants to cut it?

Way to go, congress - you made a disabled vet cry.

25. Kicked and Recommended!
This is precisely the issue.

Whatever shortfalls there might be in social security and medicare can be corrected in a reasonable manner.

But the POWERS THAT BE do not want to take these reasonable measures. Why is that?

Because they want to benefit from the massive FICA payroll contributions.

Anyone that even suggests that medicare and social security are "on the table" are not true Democrats.

As a matter of fact they are the lowest of the slime, lower than Dick Cheney and his punk Dubya Bush. And if this applies to Barrack Obama, so be it.
