Bush once again tries to sell his "I didn't want to scare the CHILDREN" fairy tale re: 9/11 reaction
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 05:29 AM by Bluebear
In a rare interview with the National Geographic Channel, Bush reflects on what was going through his mind at the most dramatic moment of his presidency when he was informed that a second passenger jet had hit New York's World Trade Center.

...My first reaction was anger. Who the hell would do that to America? Then I immediately focused on the children, and the contrast between the attack and the innocence of children," Bush says in an excerpt of the interview shown to television writers on Thursday.

Bush said he could see the news media at the back of the classroom getting the news on their own cellphones "and it was like watching a silent movie."

Bush said he quickly realized that a lot of people beyond the classroom would be watching for his reaction.

"So I made the decision not to jump up immediately and leave the classroom. I didn't want to rattle the kids. I wanted to project a sense of calm," he said of his decision to remain seated and silent.

1. Complicated thought for the village idiot.
Bush knew. That's why he sat there. He knew and didn't know how to pretend he didn't know.

The big key here: "...he could see the news media at the back of the classroom..."

"EVERYBODY PANIC! BAD STUFF IS HAPPENING!"

There is oodles to criticize that happened from 2000-2008 and this is what you pick? Wow...

30. No. But he might have stood up like an actual leader, instead of going AWOL as usual
Edited on Sat Jul-30-11 11:35 AM by SpiralHawk
He could have calmly taken action, like a real leader. But no -- as a Republicon chickenhawk -- he chose to FAIL America in its hour of need, to stay AWOL from command and to passively sit looking like a drug-stoopid stumblebum -- a Full-Fledged Republicon chickenhawk who had already ignored over 60 warnings that something like 9/11 would soon be perpetrated by his Saudi Arabian intimates & cronies.

You have no problem with a commander that sat and did nothing but stare off into space while his "unit" came under attack? "Wow"

I'm not a veteran but would suspect such a "commander" would earn the ire and distrust of his troops, and would be relieved of command.

There's a reason we shouldn't put The Loser in the White House...

It's for "rob contrary". I finally figured it out.

What's so nonsensical? He could have said "Excuse me, kids, the President has something very, very important to do"....that would have scared them? Whatever.

If that video didn't exist we would all believe he was super heroic that day. I really wonder why the video does exist. I guess the Secret Service and Andy Card were more rattled than we think. It was quite sloppy of them to overlook it.

15. Sitting there looking off into the distance as if your brain just evaporated is, as any child knows,
a hell of a lot scarier than saying, "Children, Mr. Card just asked me a question I have to answer right now. I'd much rather sit here and read this book with you! You'll have to write to me and tell me how it ends. Sometimes being president interrupts having good times with friends, like now, and it's hard." And he walks out, and one of his entourage tells the teacher what's going on.

16. Or he could have said, "I am sorry but I have to go ......
..... right now because I was just told something important."

But W was already told BEFORE he went into the school about the first plane hitting the WTC and he lied about it
later saying he saw the video of the first plane hitting before he went into the school but no such video was broadcast
until about 9:30 AM ...... about 1/2 an hour after he was told of the second plane hit on the WTC. Bottom line W's
people wanted him there so he could be seen and have a cover story. Meanwhile Dick Cheney was having our fighter
cover scrambled and all over the Atlantic ocean for war games that simulated an attack on America using hijacked
planes.

When you think about none of their cover stories make any sense ...... the most highly protected air space in the
world ....... in an around Washington D.C. was penetrated by a slow moving commercial jet almost an hour after the
first strike on the WTC? Langley AFB is minutes from D.C. with a F-16 flying @ top speed.

Why these guys are not in jail I will never know.

27. Bush Article of Impeachment XXXIII
http://warisacrime.org/busharticleXXXIII

"Article XXXIII
REPEATEDLY IGNORED AND FAILED TO RESPOND TO HIGH LEVEL INTELLIGENCE WARNINGS OF PLANNED TERRORIST ATTACKS IN THE US, PRIOR TO 9/11

In his conduct while President of the United States, George W. Bush, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty under Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution "to take care that the laws be faithfully executed", has both personally and acting through his agents and subordinates, together with the Vice President, failed in his Constitutional duties to take proper steps to protect the nation prior to September 11, 2001.

The White House's top counter-terrorism adviser, Richard A. Clarke, has testified that from the beginning of George W. Bush's presidency until September 11, 2001, Clarke attempted unsuccessfully to persuade President Bush to take steps to protect the nation against terrorism. Clarke sent a memorandum to then-National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice on January 24, 2001, "urgently" but unsuccessfully requesting "a Cabinet-level meeting to deal with the impending al Qaeda attack."

In April 2001, Clarke was finally granted a meeting, but only with second-in-command department representatives, including Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, who made light of Clarke's concerns.

Clarke confirms that in June, July, and August, 2001, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) warned the president in daily briefings of unprecedented indications that a major al Qaeda attack was going to happen against the United States somewhere in the world in the weeks and months ahead. Yet, Clarke was still unable to convene a cabinet-level meeting to address the issue..."

I find that statement interesting. My own first reaction was more like "Oh my God, what a horrible accident". And I hoped that the casualities would be few.

What was your own first thought?

31. I recall near the 1st anniversary Andy Card tried to sell a lie
That Bush DID get up immediately to deal with the crisis. That spin went down the memory hole since the video recordings show an uncomfortably long, non-reaction. I think Card thought he could get away with it because hardly anyone had seen the video. I don't think any major news organization ever showed it, but it did circulate online. It did not really get much attention until Moore include a portion of it in "Fahrenheit 911".

And then there's the fact that bush stayed in the classroom even longer to chat after the Pet Goat story was

Also down the memory hole, was Press Secretary Ari Fleisher holding up a pad of paper with "Don't say anything" written on it.
