1. Not surprising.
These cowards will give these terrorists EVERYTHING they want...and beg them to take more.

19. Perhaps a quick search for substance
before the all too predictable knee-jerk reaction would be helpful in the future for people around here.

2. How could that occur when they killed the Boner bill yesterday?
There are no do-overs in either House of Congress that I know of.

4. One of those "holding the bill open until they get the votes they need to pass"
and let the blackmailing and arm twisting commence?

8. No,
The Boehner bill was voted down. The bill that now under consideration is Leader Reid's bill, which will need 60 votes for cloture, because McConnell has announced it is being filibustered.

11. The Boehner bill was not killed, it was tabled.
It could still be brought back up for consideration, and is the most likely legislative vehicle for the eventual deal.

10. They did not kill the bill. Voted to table it but they can bring it up for discussion.
That is not the same as voting down a bill.

13. i can't imagine they would discuss after the vote to table it
Senators resumed talking in the afternoon, after their efforts publicly came to an abrupt halt Friday evening after the Democratic-controlled Senate voted 59-41 to table Republican House Speaker John Boehner's bill, effectively killing it less than two hours after the House passed it.

9. Boehner's bill with Reid amendments?
I may be mistaken... but I thought Reid was going
to gut Boehner's bill and replace the contents
with his own bill.

14. The fact that so many here were so quick to assume total betrayal...
...demonstrates yet again why progressives are such a weak political force.

Given any situation, Republicans will be quick to attack and demonize Democrats, while Democrats will be quick to attack and demonize...other Democrats. :eyes:

22. No, it demonstrates that elected Democrats have
repeated betrayed their own stated principles and polices. There are strong grounds for liberals
to be suspicious. The best predictor of future behavior is past behaviors.

23. They gutted the bill and are just using the name and
number on it so they don't have to start from scratch. That is an acceptable practice...

24. How could they be 'gutting' it when the bills are similar to begin with?
The major difference between the two is the balanced budget provision and the height of the debt ceiling. In terms of austerity measures against the American people both plans are horrific assaults.

25. They really aren't that similar.
really look at them. Reid's cuts come from natural progression, i.e. the ending of the wars and lower interest payments due to the ending of the wars. Where as boners cuts are to actual services. Harry's also doesn't have to be renewed at Christmas time...talk about the War on Christmas, having another debt ceiling crisis then would certainly qualify...I'm not sure why they picked Christmas time when retail HAS to do good business then and another debt ceiling fiasco would stunt that...didn't talk to the Chamber of Commerce, John? Harry's debt commission is not binding, whereas boners is.

And Harry's certainly doesn't have a "balanced budget" amendment...
