"Nearly all children nowadays were horrible." Now I know why all of the "hate the children" threads |
|
"Nearly all children nowadays were horrible. What was worst of all was that by means of such organizations as the Spies they were systematically turned into ungovernable little savages, and yet this produced in them no tendency whatever to rebel against the discipline of the Party. On the contrary, they adored the Party and everything connected with it... All their ferocity was turned outwards, against the enemies of the State, against foreigners, traitors, saboteurs, thought-criminals. It was almost normal for people over thirty to be frightened of their own children." - George Orwell, 1984, Book 1, Chapter 2

Or is this hyperbole compared to being just not true?

3. More about misspent youth... |
|
"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise and impatient of restraint" (Hesiod, 8th century BC)
"I believe what really happens in history is this: the old man is always wrong; and the young people are always wrong about what is wrong with him. The practical form it takes is this: that, while the old man may stand by some stupid custom, the young man always attacks it with some theory that turns out to be equally stupid." (G. K. Chesterton)

4. My sister-in-law is like this |
|
Doesn't like being around small children, or teenagers. Once they are out of infancy, she is over them. Really annoys me. Sure she has that right, but to the deteriment of her own GRANDKIDS even? You think she wants to be around OTHER PEOPLE'S KIDS?
I have two words for her. Old Fogey. So stay by yourself and dream about the PAST.
