How about a good old fashioned "Big Bang" plan from the President? |
|
President Obama should call for a 9:00 PM Address to the nation from the Oval Office tomorrow. He should make one simple statement. He should say that at this late hour, and considering the inability of Congress to enact complicated legislation in association with lifting the Debt Limit he will accept nothing but a clean bill raising the limit. Anything else gets a Veto. One page that does nothing other than change the number.
Let both sides cave, let the nation go forward. He can demand it, and who could blame him at this late hour? What reasonable person could disagree?

I always try to see things from the person's perspective (which ultimately is impossible, but I've learned you never know how you're going to act/react until you're the one in a specific situation). And I've tried to understand Obama's willingness to keep on plugging to get a bipartisan agreement - which is admirablel and really, his job.
BUT, I honestly think at this point I'd be so fucking furious with the Republicans, I'd do exactly as you suggest. And there would be NOTHING wrong with that. It bypasses any "question" if the 14th Amendment is viable or not. It's the PERFECT solution.
Since both sides do agree we can not have a default, they'd have to vote for it, I'd think.
Please get Obama on the line and advise him to do thusly. :7

2. I would guess that will come on Aug 1 in the afternoon. Last minute |

vote on clean bill. They can either support the USA or vote to destroy it. At midnight he will sign the 14th Amendment if they do not. That is my guess.
