So what will you do with your anger and your pain following this tragedy? |
|
I've been thinking about this quite a bit this past 24 hours. I have a grandson who is 9 and it would kill me inside to lose him, particularly in such a manner. It would kill me inside to lose a parent or grandparent or a sister to such a senseless act of violence.
I can also say that the level of vitriol and anger in the political discourse has been greatly disturbing to me over the past two years to the point that I sometimes feel physically ill just listening to the what passes for discussion.
I am angry too and very sorrowful. However, letting this tit-for-tat screamfest spiral ever downward is not the answer and resolves nothing. We do need to find a way to work together in this nation to the benefit of all before it destroys us. I don't want my little grandson learning that this flamethrowing is the way to resolve problems and I want to leave a better world behind for him.
I tried to suggest an action step of calling on another thread of demanding of Congress a fitting tribute to the victims of this massacre in the form of meaningful immigration and health care reform. This is where I will direct my efforts. I would hope that there are likeminded people willing to venture out in this manner. We need to heal as a nation as we try to help the victims and their families heal. Anger turned inward is suicidal.

1. Point out the false equivalency of .......... |
|
"both sides do it" every chance I get.
So how do we "work together in this nation for the benefit of all" when there's a wealthy elite super minority that want it ALL for themselves and none for the rest of us?

2. What we need is a massive March in DC and other major cities |
|
We need to show how the left does it and we do it without the use of guns or other forms of violence.
Gandhi freed a nation without ever firing a gun. We can fight back doing the same!

3. Someone suggested having a section on DU |
|
keeping a timeline and articles involving violent rhetoric over the past 3 or 4 decades.
I think that's a great idea, to have it all in one central place, and everyone can contribute.

I'm watching/read MSNBC continue with the both sides do it meme. Both sides don't - but the end result of this will be that it's Democratics/Leftists/Progressives that have ALWAYS been pro gun, pro violence, etc. etc. Angle's words will be re-assigned to Harry Reid. Sarah's to Obama. Bachmann's to Franken. Rachel Maddow will have her transcripts removed and replaced with Beck's. Ohlbermann with Rush's.
The people of the Lie have already starte a Great Lie (that both sides do it) and since the people in control (Murdoch, Koch brothers) have said it is so - it will be so.
No need to get angry or upset about anything.
