How to take control of Washington
First step, call your senator. Make sure they understand a) you don't want this bill, and b) you will not support anyone who votes for it.

If we do this, the bill gets hung in the senate until after the deadline. Obama has no choice but to raise the debt ceiling unilaterally, and then without the debt ceiling cudgel, the negotiations will stall.

Absent that, get ready for a push to defeat Obama in the primaries (it's very doable) and a very tumultuous 2012. We'd need to see to it that an organization rises up to create a similar buzzsaw to what we saw in 2010 on the part of the Tea Party, to put reformer candidates into office. Of course we need to be doing that anyway, but it's an even higher priority if these cuts do go into effect.

We have the presidency and the Senate. That matters. We should be able to get what we want out of these negotiations. We should absolutely not negotiate with hostage takers, let alone thugs.

1. One better: Tell them to get out on The Floor and make their protests for the record.
Really let the country know what it's risking.
