Has anyone else noticed subtle changes at NBC and MSNBC since the Comcast takeover/buyout? I once respected Meet The Press and felt it was unbiased. Now it seems to be tilted towards Republicans. I have also noticed that MSNBC has more Republicans fighting with the anchors. Cenk U. recently left MSNBC and said that he has been told by management to have more Republicans. The right wing seems to be slowly trying to take over the news. Again, these seem to be subtle changes so no one will notice. I am sure this is not news to many of you. I try to get my news from alternative sources now (DU/internet, etc.) Although, lately I have noticed that when I did a couple of Google searches for something political, it came up with right wing websites. Be careful out there.

1. People at DU have been complaining about MTP and MSNBC programming for years... |
|
...long before Comcast came on the scene.
For that matter, so have people at FR and RedState.

2. Privilege of ownership. RWers bought MSNBC, now they own it. |
|
They get to dictate content.
They couldn't just turn it into Fox News overnight.
So they make subtle, insidious changes to forward their corporate agenda.
I don't watch TV, but this is the time honored established MO among RW corporations that take over media for propaganda purposes.

3. Meet the Press leaned right for years under Russert. Gregory was more brazen. |
|
Comcast has barely had time to update the stationery. Too early to blame them for much.

4. I was taken aback when MSNBC hired Michael Steele. |
|
Maybe that's their version of "fair and balanced"? I'm grateful that Keith is now on Current, and hope others join him. Like Rachel...would hate to see her "tamped down" by MSNBC.
Welcome to DU, BTW.

I haven't noticed subtle differences. David Gregory has always leaned right and I saw that again immediately as he replaced Tim Russert. If you watch O'Donnell, Maddow and Big Eddie I don't see much "right" in those three hours.
Matthews has always been more moderate but I think fair. Between these hosts you have 5PM to midnight on MSNBC that is pretty fair to left leaning which is very welcomed.
ON EDIT>> I originally said CHUCK TODD above rather than David Gregory. Although I have also found Chuck Todd to be from the right.

6. I don't have a problem with the shows inviting right wingers |
|
I have a problem when they allow those fascists to dominate the time and the host doesn't fight back.

8. Google is not tilting your searches to right wing websites. |
|
Google is a very liberal company. But they don't tilt websites for any philosophical view. They have algorithms that determine search ranking based on things like how many pages link to you, and how many clicks a link got with a certain keyword search.

9. not really, those press shows are traditionally right leaning. |
|
As Bernie Sanders points out, political conversation and debate in this country starts off with right wing talking points and thus the right always control conversation. These shows are so lazy rarely does an actual liberal idea or point of view start a debate since it is so much easier to latch onto the "new" right wing talking points every week. That's why I for one almost never watch these shows anymore. They talk about a fake world and the same rehashed crap over and over and pretend it's new.
It was always a myth it was a liberal leaning network. Yeah they had KO and he brought in a few other centrist or liberal people, but the vast majority of their morning and mid day programing was either neutral or right leaning. So for MSNBC overall, it seems the same as always.
