GOP will get 99% of what it wanted, Dems will be blamed for cutting entitlements, Obama will be
attacked as weak, McConnell will be given any "credit" for the compromise...and the Republicans will view this as proof that extortion works so they have every reason to use this tactic again and again. (Don't think the GOP won't blame the Dems for cutting entitlements, no matter how hypocritical those speeches and ads will be. This pathetic deal can't pass without a lot of Democratic support, since many Republicans won't vote for it and the White House will have to force Dems to vote as GOP-lite to get this through both houses.)

This is where we've ended up, after years of ceding ground to Republican extremists, allowing them to frame the debate, and trying for impossible "compromise" with thugs who keep moving the goalposts farther right, no matter what damage that does to the country.

1. Yes, this was horrible politics as well as horrible governance and horrible morality
lose/lose/lose. A complete disaster. except for the president, who will give speeches about how he "transformed the Democratic Party", and be paid millions for them

4. They will use it again and again. They only used it AGAIN this time because it worked...
...so well the last 2-3 times. Obama falls for it - every time. I don't think he's that gullible. I think this is his political ideology - to put it bluntly: Republican.

can you tell me everything the GOP wants (had on their want list) so we can test this 99% theory?

7. What are the entitlement cuts in this deal?
You mean the imaginary ones the "committee" is supposed to come up with before the 2nd part of the debt ceiling increase? LOL. I wouldn't count on that happening. The only actual cuts that matter are what are in 2012. The rest are pretend cuts that the very next budget can/will simply override. The amount of cuts in 2012 is peanuts - something like 5-10 billion dollars.

I don't think Obama actually gave up nearly as much as people seem to think. He gets the debt ceiling off the table for the rest of his term so we don't give the teabaggers another opportunity to run this dog and pony show, the cuts are in theory only because the only ones that actually matter are in 2012, the balanced budget amendment vote will lead to nothing because as far as I know there is no specific bill to vote on and that means Democrats in the Senate can write up a document they could even support (one that balances the budget with tax increases), etc.

The real loss here is not this legislation. The loss is that the teabaggers have re-framed the debate. We are talking about cuts and austerity instead of stimulus and creating jobs. That is the real defeat.

If Reid and Pelosi go for it, are they bags of shit now, too?

11. No way. This is a smart move.
Once again, Obama and the Dems got the messy Republican created outrage out of the way by giving in to them on everything they wanted. This way, like all the debates of the past couple of years, now that it's out of the way Obama and the Democrats can really get to work on the Democratic priorities and the job situation.

Now that this whole thing is off the table they'll be able to get cracking on their jobs plan which is.........well there's that........I mean now they can do what they haven't been able to as far as improving the economy by pushing through a stimulus plan....oh wait....no not that........umm...that thing I think they want to do......now they can start hitting corporations really hard by passing legislation making it harder for them to outsource jobs and hide their profits.......oh wait....they're not going to do that either........not sure what it is or was that they were going to do exactly but I'm sure they have a great plan.

Because now there's just nothing left for Republicans to be outraged about. In his wise, sage negotiating and political maneuvering Obama has outplayed the Republicans again by giving them everything they want and negotiating and debating on their terms. Anyone who can't see this is just a fool, plain and simple.

In case it wasn't obvious..... :sarcasm:

As long as the money keeps cascading from the middle classes to the swell's Swiss bank accounts, all is well.

Whoever thought a Democratic president would be a follower of Pruneface and trickle-down economics?

the unreasonableness/ignorance/"no" at any cost stance of the tea party wing of the Republican party. If it worked, it will be tried again and again.

25. About half the cuts will come from Defence...
and other Republican pet projects like agricultural subsidies look like they'll get cut. By how much is anyone's guess. The US spends $75 billion dollars a year on subsidising agriculture, so it will be interesting to see by how much this will be cut.
