Three Dems have voted against Reid plan (Reid (nv), Manchin, Nelson), Bernie Sanders voted against. 1 Repub (Brown (MA)) voted for.

10. Even Reid voted Nay - it was procedural so they can hammer out |
|
the final tweaks in the New Improved bill and he can call this back and vote on the amended one.
This is what both sides wanted, so -- so far so good. :7

6. That sometimes happens. It's some procedural thing that allows them to bring it back up again later. |
|
But please don't ask me to explain it. I never understood Senate rules and never will.

14. It was just a cloture vote that allows them to end debate on the bill |
|
It didn't pass so debate on the bill is still open and most likely whatever this alleged new deal is will be rolled into the current Reid bill.

7. What kind of gamemanship is this? |
|
Am I reading this right? The Reid plan would have passed, except for the fact that Reid voted against it?
Am I reading this wrong?

12. I thought budgetary matters only took a simple majority. |
|
I thought that's how Bush got his tax-cuts passed in the first place. Does anyone here know for sure?

11. So he can call it back and include the New deal as an amendment |
|
and vote on it again.
Had they left it as is, then I think it would eat up time and we know we don't have any.
So this is going according to (the new) plan.

16. Plus, I guess he now knows he can have it any time he wants. |
|
Maybe he's hoping for something better, knowing he's got this as a fallback so long as noone changes their mind.

Whatever it finally turns out to be, yeah. They still don't have a deal, |
|
otherwise they'd all be saying they did. Still tweaking, I guess.
This didn't get any support in the House so there was no reason to try to do something with it (they've already voted it down!) so this is really the best way to do it in the interest of time. And, we MAY actually get something accomplished. I'm just hoping it's not as bad as some of us fear, but we really don't know for absolute sure yet.

22. I imagine so, but what does that have to do with his bill and him voting against it? |
|
His bill was all cuts as well. He may bring other bills to the floor. But he still voted against his bill so that he could bring it back up if he sees a reason to.

The real plan is being negotiated with the White House. Apparently they almost have a deal already.
