WI's Congressman Sean Duffy lied on the floor of the House last night when he railed that Obama had cut Medicare by $500 billion and rationed care. Lied.

The $500B is savings from reforms a Teapublican should love! Billions come from increases in premiums for higher-income beneficiaries and administrative changes - a kind of means testing conservatives tend to like. A new national board will identify $15.5 billion in savings, but the board -- the Independent Payment Advisory Board -- is PROHIBITED from proposing anything that rations care or reduces benefits. Annual increases in payments to health care providers are reduced. $136 billion comes from changes to the Medicare Advantage program - the part of Medicare that is already privatized and sucks money out of the system. 25% of Medicare beneficiaries are in this failed privatized program. Taxpayers pay 14 percent more to insure a beneficiary through the Advantage program than through traditional Medicare.

I am glad to hear Duffy is so strongly opposed to Medicare cuts, though! (Or is he?) Maybe Duffy was using the Sen. Kyle technique of presenting information "not meant to be factual" to make his point. That's what they call it. We know it's lying.
