7. Yes, it does.
If the committee fails to reach $1.2 trillion, it will trigger an automatic across the board spending cut, half from domestic spending, half from defense spending, of $1.5 trillion. The domestic cuts come from Medicare providers, but Medicaid and Social Security would be exempted. The enforcement mechanism carves out programs that help the poor and veterans as well.

12. what do you think the chances are
that the super-committee being set up won't recommend changes in social security, medicare, and medicaid in November? Honest question, because I believe the chances of them not recommending "entitlement reform" are exactly zero.

The GOP is at this moment trying to whittle down the defense cut provision per TPM.

21. True.
There's a chance that they'll like the triggers so much they'll sabotage the committee intentionally.

You're kidding right......

Here's what we'll get, cuts to medicare, social security and no tax increases.

Obama and Reid are giving away everything. There is a very good chance that the Republicans will contriol the House, the Senate and the oval office after the 2012 election.

They may as well be killing the elderly and the sick themselves.

6. What are you saying that it does not touch entitlements?
The special commission that will be appointed is required to cut entitlements, .... or entitlements will be cut.

27. Where did I say anything about hatred?
My concern that significant numbers of people will see their lives dramatically diminished or even cut
short by these cuts. The emotion I am feeling right now is fear, fear for our country and our way of life.

23. No, this is not accurate for the most part. If the commission doesn't agree, Medicare benefits, SS,
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 06:45 PM by BzaDem
and Medicaid are EXEMPT from cuts (along with programs for the poor like food stamps). The only thing in the trigger that is technically entitlement spending are limited cuts to providers, which were likely coming anyway due to HCR.

If the commission doesn't agree, then there will be nearly a trillion of defense cuts, but no entitlement benefit cuts.

29. Do you really think that cutting payments to providers
Edited on Sun Jul-31-11 07:04 PM by Big Blue Marble
does not impact beneficiaries? Why are they called providers?

Cuts will mean reduced services in a profit-driven health care system. Who will be impacted by those cuts
in service? The providers or the Beneficiaries?

Who's left? The RWers, Teabaggers and Faux Dem Blue Dogs?

I feel the 14th Amendment coming on.

22. The Elite have painted themselves in a corner, if the left and right hold firm
for if no deal can get through, we are heading for default, and then the rich, will start feeling the pain the rest of us already have.

However, I would like to think that they would be forced to just pass a CLEAN bill that only raises the debt ceiling like they should have from the start.

Have they over-reached?
