8. Yes, but now that they have changed the rules of political governance,
they may find that at some point they need the Black Caucus and/or the Progressive Caucus to get a debt ceiling raised, a budget passed, or for some other important measure. Perhaps they will demand a single-payer health plan as part of the deficit reduction package. Of course, it precisely to avoid these kind of deadlocks at there is a traditions against doing this except in the most extreme situations. But those traditions have been tossed to the wind, so there is no reason that progressives can't play by the same rules.

13. Elections have consequences. People are supposedly panicked about
the deficit and spending. (I doubt that, but that was the given reason for Dems losing the House.) The right wing media told us stimulus = BAD, entitlements are unsustainable. Well, this is what the people get.
