In 1996, Charles Colson shocked conservatism by talk of violence

In 1996, Chuck Colson (Nixon's hatchet man turned religious leader) opined in the Catholic intellectual journal "First Things" that the time for open and violent revolution would come in the culture wars. He ended by saying he didn't think the time had yet quite arrived. But when peaceable means and limited civil disobedience failed, it would be time for violence to stop judicial activism and (by extension) congressional activism.

I am unable to link to the article itself, as it is protected now by subscription.

I just want to note that a discussion of violence as a method of pushing their values has been part of the leadership of conservative Christians for many years already. This isn't new talk. They've considered it already.

1. Colson's Watergate brother, G. Gordon Liddy, advocated for violence instead of
legislation.

“They've got a big target on there: ATF. Don't shoot at that because they've got a vest on underneath that. Head shot, head shots.”
