Michelle Malkin highlights DU as example of progressives' “climate of hate”
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 01:20 PM by Emit
The progressive “climate of hate:” An illustrated primer, 2000-2010

The Tuscon massacre ghouls who are now trying to criminalize conservatism have forced our hand.

They need to be reminded. You need to be reminded.

~snip~

Flashback — the Democratic Underground indulging in name-calling the MSM ignores:

Reader Monica M. sent me a link to the Democratic Underground’s latest thread for commenters to come up with nicknames and posters to slime GOP Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin — and then to “spread all over the ‘net.” There are now nearly 100 filthy, hate-filled responses and counting. Among the “nicer” entries: “Cruella,” “Gidget,” “Governor Jesus Camp,” “VPILF,” “Fertilla the Huntress,” “Iditabroad,” and “KILLER PYSCHO FUNDIE BITCH FROM HELL!!”

…Peer with me further into the liberal sinkhole again and behold P.D.S. in full bloom. Note that this site is raising money for Barack Obama and that an ad for their fundraiser appears at the top of the thread. Is Obama going to accept their cash? Know your enemy:

…The Photoshop entries getting thumbs up from DU commenters...

2. DU does not have a Newspaper Column, Radio Show, nor does it appear on TV as a commentator
as Ms. Malkin does.

Nor is it a Republican Politician or Candidate talking about "second amendment remedies" and so on.

For the most part if DU members advocate violence, they are

8. I really have to disagree with this...
As frustrated as I can get with some people on this board, it is an extremely rare event where anyone threatens real violence against anyone and those few occurrences are either obviously tongue in cheek and clever (references to turkeys, pit bulls or polar bears come to mind) or they are quickly admonished or just ignored (which is the equivalent of banishment around here).

The photo of her with the pom poms doing her little "cheer" sprang to mind.

What instantly jumped into my head was Pom Pom Macoute.

If you're not already familiar with the term that's based on, Tonton Macoute, then Wikipedia will make it obvious why it's such an awesome fit.

I wish it would spread, and that Malkin would find out about it.

Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 01:36 PM by Tom Rinaldo
Earth to Malkin. DU is a free form discussion forum, but even here any threads calling for the use of violence against anyone get purged, and I don't mean after the fact when someone who posted one actually acts out and gets caught. They simply are not tolerated here. Meanwhile the Republican Party ran a candidate for the U.S. Senate who spoke positively about the option of Second Amendment remedies, and a radio talk jock who jokes about killing Liberals is off limit to any criticism from Republican leaders, and continuzlly bowed down to. There are countless examples of Right wingers who are actively courted by and embraced by the official Republican Party (not the "Republican Underground") making threats of violence and/or condoning the possible use of violence for political ends. This isn't a debate about relative "civility", it is an effort to prevent further actual violence - we just had an actual murder of a Judge and near assasination of a Congresswomen. And I say that with all due respect to our esteemed conservative commentator, and the once duly elected Governor of Alaska and all of her patriotic supporters. People are bing killed and more will be if violence continues to be equated with name calling.

34. I'm not going to apologize for being angry
A Democratic member of Congress was shot through the head so Malkin is just going to have to deal with the fact that there's an online forum for us to vent our anger.

I know it doesn't seem nearly as sophisticated as going to the rallies of our political opponents with guns on our hips or holding signs that incite violence against people who disagree with us, but that's not our gig. We don't encourage others to target and reload on others. We don't laugh about lynching or executions. None of us will open fire on a group of innocent people or blow up a federal building or fly a private plane into an IRS building or even smash windows of political campaign headquarters. We discuss. Sometimes we use bad words (gasp!).

Deal with it, then learn from it Malkin. Then run off and teach your friends.

37. I was involved in a progressive activist issue here and, at a small planning meeting...
.
.
.
.
...one of the fairly central figures joked (and I had no doubt that it was a joke) about
"some windows could get broken".
.
.
.
I slammed him verbally leaving absolutely NO question that suggestions of that sort were
totally out-of-place in our group... that anyone who voiced those opinions -- joke or not --
had no place in our group and that I didn't want to hear ANYTHING along those lines
repeated again by anyone.
.
.
.
We were increasing public awareness and support for our issue in a big way... and all our
opponents NEEDED was one, count 'em, ONE credible piece of evidence that this was "discussed"
at one of our meetings, even as simply a "joke" comment.
.
.
.
This is why there SHOULD be a zero - count THEM -- ZERO tolerance level for suggestions
that an act of violence might be the answer.
.
.
.
Trolls can come in and discredit this entire website with just one post.
.
.
.
I say ALERT... and ALERT bigtime any time you see someone even JOKING about those sorts of
acts.
.
.
.

43. Time for the FRAME...
There's a difference between ridicule, mockery, or caustic remarks and eliminationist rhetoric. The RW uses eliminationist speech all the time and that's vastly different from anything you hear from Progressives.

As Paul Krugman said:

"The point is that there’s room in a democracy for people who ridicule and denounce those who disagree with them; there isn’t any place for eliminationist rhetoric, for suggestions that those on the other side of a debate must be removed from that debate by whatever means necessary."

55. There are borderline batshits
out there who have been listening to socially and politically prominent right wingers on TV, on radio and behind podiums inciting violence against the left for 10 years now. That is why people who have state or media power have always in the past been careful with words. They know their words carry extra weight- and to a mentally unstable person that sanction can be transferred.
Apparently the Right has used this knowledge knowing eventually someone would get killed.

Of course that would then further the right wing ambition of pulling the U.S. closer to a police state.

McCain Campaign (Palin) Amplifies Violent Rhetoric, GOP Crowds Threaten Obama's Life - OCT 7 2010

"An even more basic question, perhaps: Is Gov. Palin trying to incite violence against Sen. Obama as part of an ill-conceived campaign strategy to change the topic from the economy at any cost?"

"It's a dangerous road, but we have no choice," a top McCain strategist recently admitted to the Daily News. "If we keep talking about the economic crisis, we're going to lose."

They knew it was 'dangerous' - to the left. That means these cockfucks need to be in prison. Where are the indictments?

59. "The Tuscon massacre ghouls who are now trying to criminalize conservatism have forced our hand. "
Tuscon Massacre "ghouls"?

Exactly what did any DU member have, if anything, to do with what happened before, during, or after the tragedy that occurred in Tuscon, Malkin?

As far as trying to "criminalize conservatism", we are doing no such thing, we are, however, decrying the use of violent symbols and rhetoric uttered by supposed conservative "leaders" who have a much greater INFLUENCE over a larger group of people.

In fact, I will use one two-letterword to describe my reaction to Malkins claim, that was spoken by Dick Cheney, when asked about his reaction to those who opposed the US' continued occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan:

"So?"

She puts out maps of the US with crosshairs over her political opponents.

Oh yeah, that's equivalent. You betcha! :eyes::eyes::eyes:

66. Where is the violent rhetoric? The call to arms?
There doesn't appear to be any. Thus, Malkin's idiocy is shown yet again.
