Now Reid gets a backbone On THIS SUBJECT?!!?!
I'm sorry. I'm glad Reid finally shows a spine BUT I expected him do to it on something more important.

http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2010/12/reid-i-dont-need-to-hear-sanctimonious-lectures-about-the-meaning-of-christmas.php?ref=fpa

After Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) accused Majority Leader Harry Reid of grinchery for suggesting that the Senate work the week after Christmas, Reid blamed Kyl's party for the delay that may push votes past the holiday.

"As a Christian, no one has to remind me of the importance of Christmas for all of the Christian faith, for all their families, all across America," he said. "I don't need to hear the sanctimonious lectures of Sen. Kyl and DeMint to remind me of what Christmas means."

"Where were their concerns about Christmas filibuster after filibuster of every piece of legislation during this entire Congress?" Reid asked on the Senate floor this afternoon.

Yeah, I'm glad he is standing up for himself in this instance but REID where the freak where you when the GOP was screwing the average Joe/Jane?

2. Reid has discussed the problems with how the Rupulicans have abused the filibuster
There's not much he can do until the filibuster rules are changed. Why he didn't work on changing it once it became clear the Republicans were going to continuously block majority votes is the real question. Perhaps that too would have required a Super-Majority vote?

4. Rachael said they could only make the rule change on the first day of congress

So if he's smart, he'll make the change at the start of the next congress.

8. I think we give Reid too much shit...his job is not easy.
That said, he should have seen this coming and prepared the rule change in 2009.

The Republicans started abusing the filibuster in 2007, so we were on notice for 2009.

11. I just saw the show Maddow did last night - and I have to agree.
An unprecedented EIGHTY FOUR Filibusters in one year?

I think their strategy all along has been to make the Democrats look ineffective so everyone would turn against them.

I confess to complaining about the Dems as much as everyone because I didn't understand the filibuster rules and how they were being abused. The one thing I think is the the Democrats need to work on their messaging - get this info out and through the obstructionism right back on the Republicans.

12. Exactly.
The last time the unemployment extension got voted down and people's checks were delayed, an old "facebook" friend posted something about not getting his check and how, "it's both sides' fault!"

I normally steer clear of facebook fights, but I had to post the vote totals and point out that it really wasn't "both sides" who denied him his check.

I think we have to make a concerted effort to fight that MSM meme.

10. Yep,
And it's on Saturday this year, so there is no reason to miss one day of work the following week! If they don't like it, then let them stop acting like a bunch of idiots and do what they are voted in to do! Harry needs to get tough as hell with these morons and stop letting them get their way all the time!

Sometimes it's just too late to redeem yourself. This is one of those times.
