Family Members of Loughner blockade themselves in Their house
Edited on Mon Jan-10-11 03:17 PM by MadBadger
Family members of the suspect in the Gabrielle Giffords shooting on Monday blockaded themselves into their home north of Tucson and were refusing FBI agents' entry.

At about 12:25 p.m., agents began banging on the blockade built with 4-by-4 double-thick plywood, yelling, "This is the FBI. Let us in." The blockade is preventing access to the front porch of the home.

Some agents were sent behind the house, and media representatives could hear the agents talking with someone from inside the house.

It's not immediately clear why the family of Jared Loughner were preventing law enforcement entry. Loughner remains in custody and has an appearance in federal court later Monday.

3. Maybe the entire family is paranoid and he isn't mentally ill but acting on learned
behavior. I guess that could still make him mentally ill but maybe he comes by this through nurture.

4. Sounds like hes family might be
one of Palins Anti-government fanatics as well? I could be wrong, but what other reason is there not to allow the FBI, I assume with a warrant, in? Unless they are doing something illegal in there like cooking up meth or something.

8. WTF?
One would think that the FBI would not take "no" for an answer if they were there to collect evidence in the shooting of a federal judge and congresswoman.

The place would have been blown to smithereens by a drone by now.

Michael Moore had it right when he offered in his tweet:

If a Detroit Muslim put a map on the web w/crosshairs on 20 pols, then 1 of them got shot, where would he b sitting right now? Just asking.

*That* would be insane.

They got the guy at the scene, lots of witnesses, plus his own writing. They have a case already.

37. There is no pressing need to shoot down the door.
If you want evidence, I assume that includes making sure the parents aren't gunned down before they can testify.

41. The usual explanation is "to prevent destruction of evidence."
That can be considered a pressing need, and usually is. If they have a warrant, they will enter, regardless.

Of course the Warrant could be radioed in... not kidding.

39. That makes sense - once you hear someone say that they are actually
from the FBI you would let them in with a warrant. You don't have to talk - refer questions to your attorney. But I don't think you can refuse access if they've got the warrant.

13. This is getting weirder.
Very weird that the family is blocking access with plywood. A lawyer would be a more effective way to block it. Maybe they simply are trying to protect their son and are furiously destroying evidence. OTOH, maybe it's something else.

That guy was described as in his 40s or 50s (the right age to be Loughner's father.)

35. No. That guy turned out to be the cab driver and was absolved.
He hung out a little at the scene because the kid didn't pay the fare.

There is no reason that I know of to suspect the parents are anything but the parents and one of them may be not all right.

19. What a quote! Geez
If he would have done his job, maybe this doesn't happen," Harper told USA Today on Monday. "Sheriff Dupnik did not provide for the security of a U.S. congresswoman."

"When everyone is carrying a firearm, nobody is going to be a victim," Harper continued. "The socialists of today are only one gun confiscation away from being the communists of tomorrow."

We were told that documents were pulled out of some safe in his house and we were told he lived with his parents. Actually, I assume it was the police, but perhaps it was the FBI who found the documents? But now the parents won't let them in today. Well ok then. I don't know what to think about this.
