Saturday's Story Should Also Be One Of Courage And Bravery |
|
while many of us, including myself, have focused on the tragic events of Saturday, we should also focus on the other things. that being, the bravery of the people there.
it has been widely reported now that it was ordinary citizens who stopped jared loughner's rampage. it was a brave elderly lady who yanked away his ammo before he could reload. it was people there, ordinary people like you or I, who tackled the murderer without any regard for their own lives. it was the young staffer who worked to save the life of the congresswoman he had only recently gone to work for. undoubtedly many people that day owe their lives to the brave actions of their fellow Americans who gave little regard for themselves and every regard for their countrymen and neighbors and each other.
as keith olbermann said, we are despite our differences we are all Americans. these brave ordinary people, in the face of madness, stood up to be counted. we should keep that also in our minds as we move forward. that despite the violence, the brave will stand up. not for anything else than its the right thing to do. that day, they stood up to save lives, not to take them. they stood up not to support hate and violence, but to stop it.
to them, we should all say thank you.

1. Yes. And even the sheriff who spoke out against mainstreaming violence |
|
put himself at personal risk to do the right thing.
