Get a couple of these babies doing multiple, successive swings of the read/write arm and they would start to "walk" like unbalanced washing machines -- whichever crossed the chalk line first was the winner.

In at least one case one of these machines "walked" in front of a door during normal use -- engineers programmed a read-write sequence to steer it away, and after letting it run for a while were eventually able to open the door.
