Why is that picture being spread all over of the shooter?
We've all seen the so-called mug shot that is being plastered all over the MSM and the internets, but is that really his mug shot or are they trying to use that photo to push the "crazy" angle?

Here are the artist depictions of him in court yesterday

He sure grew a lot of hair in one day. Of course these sketches are pretty rough, but why would they depict him with hair all of a sudden? I'm not really sure as to the extent of Loughner's mental illness, but I'm guessing that some people want to make sure they set the stage.

1. What pissed me off was that most of the media carried the photo
of Loughner with long hair, from his high school yearbook. He has had short hair for years, but the media use the long hair photo to show his "liberal" slant.

10. In his mug shot, he looked PROUD
of what he had done. Not crazy--proud.

3. I believe it was his mug shot.
And to address the poster below commenting on the picture of him with long hair, quite often crime story photographs of perpetrators are often accompanied early on with a copy of a photo from the school yearbook which is sometimes the only publicly available photo early on. I wouldn't be so quick to assign ulterior motives for every aspect of a story.

5. I'm telling you that I heard an earlier news report in which
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 09:08 AM by Skidmore
it was referred to as his mug shot. The only picture I've seen of him with short hair was one of him at some event outside a bookstore, I believe.

Last night, Rachel Maddow said it's not his mug shot. Just heard someone on
CNN still saying that it is.

6. Mr. Loughner may be showing an inappropriate expression, but
when I look at his photos, I don't see a person with schizophrenia. I'm not an expert nor do I have medical training, but the people I know with this disorder have a specific look that he doesn't have. I thought his writings were what I'd expect from someone with schizophrenia, so now I'm really confused.

I wouldn't put too much importance to the photo being shown so widely; it's the most recent photo available. Also, who are "they" and "some people"? It's one thing to notice that media sources tend to get into intensive feed-back loops. For example, look at all the stories last week about bird deaths. Media outlets world wide jumped on that story. It's quite another thing to suspect secret conspiracies molding the narrative, Rupert Murdoch aside.

7. The mug shot is pretty intense.
I'm not sure that there are any hidden motives to using that mugshot, other than to get people to read the story.

Our media haven't stopped vying for audiences.

8. I had that EXACT same thought..You wonder if his lawyer told him to "crazy up"
for the camera, or something...and the sudden shift in hair certainly seems odd, too.

13. The media was pushing the "liberal" angle until the assassins court appearance
Edited on Tue Jan-11-11 09:35 AM by NNN0LHI
That is why they only showed the dated Bob Dylanesque looking photo from his high school yearbook until they had no more choice.

They had the booking photo Saturday but would not put it on the air until they had to.

I don't know any liberal skinheads.

18. The media had no choice after his court appearance
Up until that point the media pushed the high school photo which they probably got after they had mug shot.

Wonder why they did that?

15. Oh, they're definitely pushing the "crazy" angle.
Everyone is, even Jon Stewart.

I'm certain this guy is mentally ill; however people with mental illness inhabit the same world as everyone else, and encounter the same influences. They don't live in a vacuum.

But heaven forfend we ask the rightwingers to do a little soul-searching...

Neither are of a 22 year old blondish brown, white skin male with kind of a round face.

Something is distorted here.
