A small but Hopeful (and noisy) sign regarding Labor Support
Edited on Fri Aug-12-11 04:58 PM by Armstead
This is not earth shaking but I found it heartening.

Today there was a group of Verizon strikers standing by the road in a rotary park in the center of my city. This being a small city, it was not a huge demonstration, but comparatively large for around here.

They were holding up signs, including "Honk if you support Unions."

Well it was basically constant non-stop honking from the passing traffic. Long honks, short repetitions honks, you name it. There were cars, pick ups and even the blasts of horns on semis going by.

A lotta noise in support of those workers and labor in general in my quiet little city.

Was good to see -- and hear.

2. I just don't understand how the common man/woman can
put down unions. People either have very short memories or they know nothing about labor history - probably both. I'm retired and without the backing of my union I wouldn't have a pension & health care. I thank my union every morning before I have my coffee. Wake up, people, for God's sake.

7. We have so much power and don't even seem to realize it.
This is the beginning of how meaningful opposition to our CORPORATE OWNERS begins!! We need to freaking UNIONIZE every American citizen who cares about the working people of this nation. (Sometimes known as Anerucabs... still cannot get over that one housewolf!)

And while we we're on the subject, why do we all need to have the same employer to be connected? I think we should connect up all the unions into one GIGANTIC national union that includes ALL workers and all of us who support workers' rights.

Call it THE AMERICAN NATIONAL WORKERS' UNION!

That'd be one DAMN BIG UNION!!!

8. Shhhhh. If Murdoch and Ailes hear about honking horns as a form of
leftwing communication they'll find a way to corrupt it! Once they ban public unions, unions will be banned from public spaces. Don't give them ideas.
