the possibility that they may be right. THAT'S WHAT RATIONALISM DOES. But they undercut their own positions every time they open their mouths. I know I'm supposed to assess what truth they bring to the table, but they don't allow anyone to do that, because they don't speak the language of science and rationalism, what is commonly referred to as knowledge.

It's all so very like the Tea Partyers, who think just saying a thing makes it so. One may TRY to respect a truth they might have, but you can't because we don't speak the same cognitive language.

It has been almost impossible for President Obama to do anything with all the GOP obstruction in the Senate since February 2010 (when Scott Brown was sworn in and we lost Teddy's seat) - without 60 votes to invoke cloture, trying to get anything passed is an up hill battle.

Senator Franken was not sworn in until July 2009, and Senator Kennedy died in August 2009.
