Federal prosecutors have charged a man who allegedly walked into the Colorado Springs FBI office earlier this month and threatened to kill President Barack Obama.

Donald Edward Hatten, 47, of 228 N. Tejon St., was charged in U.S. District Court in Denver with one count of making threats against the president.

The FBI said Hatten described a plan to hitchhike to his father’s home in Pennsylvania, retrieve a gun and continue to Washington D.C., where he would confront Secret Services agents at the White House.

After allegedly making the statements, Hatten was taken to a local hospital where he consented to a psychiatric evaluation and later was placed on an involuntary 72-hour hold.
