The Bully Pulpit.
I am so freaking sick of these meme being parsed around as if it were the "one thing".

So for those that continue to assume this is the action Obama is avoiding. That implementing a bully pulpit would make so much of a difference, please, in some sort of semblance of make sense order, explain just how the bully pulpit will change the minds of tea bagger and any other RW'er?

1. The Bully Pulpit is supposed to wield public opinion and force politicians to act.
Public opinion polls show a good majority of Americans want higher taxes on the rich.

Republicans are not swayed by these polls

Public opinion polls show that a majority wants Congress to create job programs.

I can count the number of job programs passed by Congress on my fingers without using a single finger.

Republicans don't care about public opinion. The bully pulpit will not sway the tea party and other fringe elements that determine policy on the right.

2. As soon as he takes the bully pulpit, they whine that it's just words.
So fuck 'em.

3. It's the actions. They don't match up with the words.

If the words were matching up with the action, you wouldn't hear a god damned peep from me.

However his words are nice, but his actions are a knife in the back to progressives.

You can't just say the words and pretend you are using a bully pulpit. One has to put some action, some muscle behind it.

4. It is the thing Obama could do best, but he does it least.
It is not a thing which is 'implemented'. All Presidents must communicate from office. It just means 'excellent platform from which to speak'. The Presidency is an excellent platform from which to speak, a bully pulpit. Bully means 'good' or 'excellent'. It does not mean 'to push around' or to speak 'like a bully'. Every time he speaks, he does so from a bully pulpit. He rarely makes use of that fact.
