More than angry rhetoric... |
|
I am tired of hearing about the "rhetoric" of violence etc. and whether or not it helped cause the shooting in Tucson. The culture of this country worships violence, and believes that problems can be solved by just killing people.
Even someone like Mr. "Change has come to America" Obama, continues to murder people every day in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and probably still Iraq though we never hear about it anymore. It seems to be accepted as normal, that wars are started for no reason, and continue for no reason without any idea what "victory" would mean.
The death penalty is accepted as the right way to deliver justice, "he deserves to die" is heard so often and about so many things that I don't ever listen to network news anymore.
Not to mention of course guns and the worship of guns, violent films that are all about killing and shooting. I am not righteous, and I don't mind a good violent movie. But sometimes, when gun battles start in movies there is a general sense of boredom, doom, and a bleak feeling of asinine belief in violence as a possible redemption for society.
A country created on the heels of a genocide, the United States of America presented to the world a different society with their commitment to fairness and equality in the Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution of the United States, which is a model to the world. These documents are mocked and spat on every day by so many people. Not to mention the words of gentle Jesus of Nazareth, in whose name the worst atrocities are committed.
Thanks for allowing me to rant and rave. Obama is (once more) missing an occasion to lead, even if it is just to give a beautiful speech like he did in Philadelphia during the campaign, a speech that inspires to greatness and puts principle over compromise.
