The response of the shooting reminds me once again why I vote Liberal |
|
I get it the guy is crazy. How crazy is open to debate, although some people seem to be able to read a lot about a persons mental health, political affiliation etc.. from a few internet postings. The guy is alive and will get examined by real mental health experts so we will eventually find out how "crazy" he really is. Really who cares exactly about him. These events are never so much about the killer. We can't change the killer, but we are responsible for what we do. It is hard to miss the lack of tone in political rhetoric the last 20 years. Politics is always a mean, nasty thing, but it doesn't have to be violent and have calls to violence. The rhetoric was extremely violent this past election. The amount of references to guns and shooting is well documented. Once again I have heard from several liberal law makers that have accept responsibility for the language used and have heard them call for both sides to clean it up. I have heard from several liberal pundits that have vowed to be less tolerant of calls for violence from their own shows. On the right I've heard... a lot of excuses. Once again the party of "personal responsibility" has no ability to ever accept personal responsibility. It appears Republican politicians and right wing pundits have no ability for self reflection. Being able to identify mistakes and to rethink positions after tragic events is a key to good legislation. Why would I vote for people that totally lack this trait. If an event occurred that say caused a nuclear disaster in another country, liberals would call for reflection on if that could happen here, Republicans would blame liberals, pot, terrorist... but do nothing (even to investigate if something could be done). This is one of the basic reasons I can't vote for Republicans. It really isn't that hard to hear someone call for "second amendment solutions" in the last election and say you know in retrospect I wouldn't have used that language and in the future I won't say things like that. But for Republicans for the most part, it's impossible. So there won't be an investigation of if this country should reinstitute some the assault ban provisions, weither this country should look into better more affordable mental health care for it's citizens, heck we won't even look into drug use and it's affect on violent crime and if active drug users should be allowed to buy weapons (the current right wing talking point on this), Republicans seem to not be planning anything but passing on personal responsibility, passing the blame and doing the same thing over and over again no matter how many times it failed in the past. And that is CRAZY.

1. I noted in another thread... |
|
that generally the right wing and Republicans are saying that this is an "incomprehensible" act, "how could this have happened?"
generally the left wing, the Democrats are say, "We saw this coming"
I think this is telling...
