As Texas Dries Out, Life Falters and Fades
Sad story. And Rick Perry is an climate denier. So far all he had done is have prayer meetings which we all know is worthless. I hope Texas gets rain soon. And another governor who is is not an idiot.

------------------------
Up in Austin, Gov. Rick Perry is moving toward a run for the presidency. But he has had precious little to say about the drought that is devastating his state. He did organize a prayer for rain back in April. Looking at that blazing hot, clear blue sky up there, it seems heaven isn’t listening.

1. Fear not.....
...we finally got a rain yesterday, and it was amazing to see things perk up. Of course, the next ten days are all forecast at 100+ degrees with no rain, but nature is very resilient. The rain will come.....eventually, but it sure is causing hardship on a lot of people.

3. A hose from Omaha might help
If you do it right, you wouldn't need a pump. When you got done, you could get in the Guinness book with the world's longest siphon.

9. 1950s drought
A few years ago I was at a Texas Book Festival held on the grounds of the LBJ Ranch State Park in. Elmer Kelton was talking about his book The Time It Never Rained about the drought in the 50s. He was bantering with another author who's name I cannot recall (an LBJ Democrat). Kelton said that in 1958 when the drought was at its peak, Eisenhower made a brief trip to West Texas. It rained soon after he left.

Kelton quipped that, "West Texas has voted Republican ever since."

Maybe if Obama could arrange for some rain ....

nah, Perry would grab the credit.
