Back in the days of my kidhood we had some neighbors who fertilized their lawn and then went on vacation, leaving the rest of us to hold our noses. It was a powerful pungency. The stink went where it pleased, and back yard clotheslines remained empty for weeks. That stink planted itself firmly in memory.
So of course I grew up to live in cattle country, and the scent that arises from the feedlots is never mistaken for roses. When the wind shifts just right — ppphheeewww. We’re all familiar with it, we know exactly where that smell originates. Nodding to a lack of credible deniability, no cow or bull has ever tried to deny responsibility. In the midst of such odiferous abundance a skunk might be forgiven for assuming that he is welcome to do his thing.
It is true that no one (as far as we know, anyway) told Jared Loughner to pick up a gun and shoot a member of Congress and the people with her. But the stench of his actions is not inconsistent with the stench of the words that proceed with alarming regularity from Limbaugh, O’Reilly, Beck, Hannity, Malkin, Coulter, Savage and Palin. Palin went so far as to illustrate her words with crosshairs. They have worked hard to create this stink. They need to own it.

My guess for their reaction would be somethin along the lines of "She who smelt it dealt it".
