I get a letter they want $45 to renew. WTF is this all about. I've been a DNC member for decades. OK, I won't be a DNC or DCC member anymore. I'll donate just to candidates directly.

I guess I shouldn't be PO'ed but this rubbed me the wrong way, and at my advanced age.

2. I'll ask them for a refund or a guarantee of the old dem platform!!! I get several letters a week
wanting money, the postage alone would pay for my membership. I do everything online, there's no way I know of to opt out from all of the mailings. Once I could give large donations, but those days are gone.

3. What do you mean "renew"?
There's no official dues to be a Democrat. Unless you're giving enough for special benefits, they'll be happy to take any contribution you give them.

7. I renew my DNC membership each year. Generally I send $25 and I
get a renewal card. This has been going on for years. Now I just keep getting membership letters to renew at $45. Yep, I know there's no official dues to be a Democrat. I had just been doing the DNC renewal for decades.

4. It's a suggested amount
I bet that if you sent them a check for five dollars they would totally take and still consider you a member in good standing.

14. Well, not the DNC, it came back from the bank as a processed check. I should
have stated it that way.

15. I understand, the overkill is irritating
But that's the nature of marketing. I haven't been able to afford to donate to the ACLU for going on three years and I still get mailers telling me "Your membership is about to expire!"

It's a numbers game. They're not addressing you personally. You're just an address in a database, the more solicitation letters they send out, the better chances they'll hit you when you're in the mood to give.

11. Agree, that's what I think too anymore. I had been a long standing member, but
times have changed. Yep, I'll just donate directly to the candidates.

26. That is the better way to go, if you ask me.
That way you can be sure the candidates you want to get help in their campaigns will get the help.

16. Yes, I got a "give me money" letter from the Obama Administration today
with the president addressing me as "Dear Friend".

I told him that our "friendship" became strained when

he declined to support the labor unions in Wisconsin

then broke completely when he offered up cuts to Social Security

and Medicare during the Deficit negotiations.:eyes:

18. It really gets irritating. I've always thought of labor unions, Social Security and
Medicare as "must support" for any democrat in office. Instead, what I see is a willingness to erode these programs ... and down the road some politicians will want to erode them more... it's been a trend now.

22. Why are you donating to the DNC anyway?
There are plenty of candidates and officeholders out there who are actually fighting, or will fight, for traditional Democratic values.

23. After something like 50 years, it was a bit of a habit. Throughout the years
I've donated to many candidates/officeholders, but I'm tired of today's "new" DNC. I'll continue to donate to various candidates/officeholders.

25. It's expensive to be a Democrat nowadays.
With the way the party has been kowtowing to the rich lately, I guess we should expect the price to go up even more than the $45. I'm surprised they didn't expect $1000 to be a member. Isn't that close to the price of those big dinners they have where the only way to get in is to pay like $1000 a plate? It's sad, really. I'm glad it is still free to vote...for now...and I have some good Democrats in my state now to vote for.
