Dozens gather for vigil at KMJ (Fresno)

A vigil today in front of radio station KMJ (AM 580) by Fresno County Democratic Party officials who say conservative talk-radio programming has created a "climate of hate" drew a civil crowd of several dozen people objecting to the station's programming -- and some supporting it.

Linda Traynor, an official with the Fresno County Democratic Central Committee, said much of KMJ's conservative talk-show programming is full of "vitriolic rhetoric" and "violent imagery" directed against government and government officials. This can affect the behavior of people with mental problems or prone toward hate and violence, Traynor said this week.

About 40 protesters -- some carrying signs with the names and ages of those who died in the Tucson shootings -- gathered just before 5 p.m. in front of the station's offices on Shaw Avenue just west of Palm Avenue in Fresno.

They were joined by about eight to 10 people who said they were there to support the station and it's programming. Some carried signs that said "KMJ speaks truth" and "Don't blame KMJ".

the site is active but the group is small .. they have their picnics every year but it is a small group. It is sad.. they have even been reject from Republican Party events.
Maybe not so much what the Republican party has become.. morphed into Tea baggers.

for 30 years KMJ has carried Hate Radio..and sadly KMJ is the only talk radio in central valley. There is a Free speech station but they have a mix of great variety of music with talk.

Radio penetrates more audiences by far than television,
and the majority of radio is right wing.
