Sarah Palin: Attacks on me after Giffords shooting are blood libel

Former U.S. vice presidential candidate and governor of Alaska Sarah Palin hit back at critics Wednesday, comparing accusations against her in the wake of the shooting attack on Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords to blood libel, a centuries-old claim that Jews use the blood of Christian children in religious rites.

“Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own, they begin and end with the criminals who commit them -- not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their first amendment rights at campaign rallies," she said.

Giffords, who is Jewish, is in critical condition after she was shot in the head during an attack in Tucson, Arizona last week. Six other people were killed by suspected gunman Jared Lee Loughner, 22.

In the wake of the attack, Palin has come under criticism for her aggressive political style, including setting up a website called "Take Back the 20," which included a map of the United States with cross hairs on congressional districts of Democratic candidates she had singled out for defeat.

One of those seats belongs to Giffords, who criticized Palin at the time.

2. She is thrashing. Since there is no sane, legal justification for the rw hate rhetoric
any argument for it will ultimately fall. She is betting on a losing horse.

Come on sarah. Bet it all.

4. The worst part?
She had four days to come up with that drivel, and that's the best she could do.

13. To be accurate, "Team Palin" had four days to come up with that garbage!
There are words in that statement that could not possibly be a part of her vocabulary.

5. The only educated adults who support her are grifters like herself. The rest of her supporters

are uneducated fools.

6. Sarah is not fit to be president because she doesn't believe society can ever learn from another per
once again not that hard to say. I don't believe I caused this person to act, but I can see how much words could be misunderstood to be promoting violence in politics by some. I do not and will not use said language in the future. I mean it's a no brainer response. All it takes is class and intelligence. Instead she play to her "I'm always the victim" base. Either way if you can't take peoples actions and learn from them as a society does that mean she doesn't support anything Bush did after 9/11? Oh yeah what Republicans say doesn't equal what they meant yesterday or tomorrow :)

9. IMO Sarah has made so much noise over being Pro-Israel
that she thought this would 'appeal' to that audience sort of like saying she gets called a n*gger too to appeal to a Black audience and just as mistaken to the point of offensive

11. I think it is one of two situations
1. She was trying to use fancy words to try to sound smart and didn't know the meaning.

2. Whoever wrote her little speech knew exactly the terminology they were using.

Either way Gabby Giffords is Jewish and there is no excuse for this language.

12. It's bad enough on it's own, then add Gabby to the mix. Bunker mentality maybe?
Are they so focused on helping repair any damage to Palin that they just aren't looking into the details?

16. I think it's indicitive of how they function and respond to all situations.
They don't do any reasonable research, they don't have proof readers of any quality and they are simply sloppy slobs.

These people wouldn't make it in a real business environment, they would have been fired.

Palin doesn't possess the intellect or the empathy to understand the impact of words. She is uncontrollable.
