Raise taxes on bullets!
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 10:06 AM by bushisanidiot
we do it for other "vices", why not for bullets?

so much emphasis is placed on gun control, but how about discouraging the purchase of ammunition by taxing the hell out of it?

at the least the non-hunting type of ammunition..

I can make bullets, and amuunintion using common items, even the powder and primers is easy to make out of common items !! It would make me rich!!!

EDIT: I could also make alot of tax free money, teaching OTHERS how to do the same!! What a great idea!!!

ROFLMAO!!!

Did you think this through? Think anyone willing to die or go to prison for life will really care if bullets are a $1.20 more a box.

It would however make Police & self defense training (which can require hundreds if not thousands of rounds) far more expensive.

"at the least the non-hunting type of ammunition.."
Well I don't know what to say about this one.

BTW: Firearms and ammo is already taxed with an 11.5% federal excise tax. The federal government collected $20.6B in revenue from alcohol, tobacco, firearms taxes in 2009 according to BATFE.

8. What Does A Bullet Cost?........
I don't know much about guns or ammunition. I do know that there are many types of guns and so I assume there are many types of bullets for these guns. How much does one bullet cost? Are they pennies apiece? Are they under a dollar apiece? Are they over a dollar each?

I know this probably sounds naive - but I don't have a clue as to the cost.

9. It really depends on the ammo..
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 10:44 AM by Statistical
On the low end, target practice ammo for common pistol calibers (size) runs $0.10 to $0.20 ea in bulk. If you buy smaller quantity you will pay more. Maybe up to 50% more. The cheapest is .22LR which is a very very weak round normally only used for target practice and competition.

Target practice ammo tends to be cheaper as it has a very simple bullet, generally is lower quality, and has higher failure rate. High quality self defense ammo can run $0.50 to $2.00 each or more.

Rifle cartridges tend to be more expensive. Maybe double to triple those ballpark prices above.
Some caliber are rarer and have higher prices, some calibers are more common and have lower prices. 9mm is pretty much as "common" as it gets.

Like most things the store markup, brand, rarity of the caliber, quality, and quantity purchased makes price vary a lot.

10.  There is a lot of variables on ammo prices.
They range from the 22 rimfire at $2.50 for a box of 50, to $30 each for a .500 Nitro Express.
