My questions for Sarah Palin
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 10:28 AM by louis c
Once again, the radical right uses a web-cast or soft ball interview to narrow their focus on the vitriol and violent rhetoric that is used to intimidate law makers.

Here are some questions and follow-ups.

(1). "Ms. Palin, you contend that targeted districts are used by both sides during the elections. Could you please point us to a depiction of bulls-eyes or gun sights that are used by Democrats for targeted districts?"

(2). "On your map which you displayed with obvious gun sights on 20 Congressional districts, including Gabby Giffords, you had red gun sights on 3 districts. You explained on your map that that was because the candidates were not running for re-election. Could you please explain to me how you target a candidate that's not running, why they were included, and the reason any of those districts, without an incumbent, were any different from the other 415?"

(3). When Sharon Angle publicly spoke of a "second Amendment remedy" to take out Harry Reed, what do you think she meant? Could you point to any public statement by you that condemned such rhetoric?"

(4). Regardless of whether or not the heated, anti-government rhetoric from the Republican right wing of your party which includes metaphors of violence with guns as a political solution had a direct baring on this anti-government individual, would you agree that that form of rhetoric is used as intimidation of your political opponents?"

I'm sure you can think of more. Let's ask the questions.

1. You should get rid of #2
Gun sights on a district with no candidate running shows that the district is a target to win, NOT a candidate to shoot.
Pretty much negates the Palin is responsible conspiracy.

2. Oh, I disagree. And the use of red is particularly tasteless and provocative.
But go ahead and defend incitement to murder.

3. First
I was only pointing out a very weak question that could easily be turned around.

Second, how do you have "incitement to murder" a candidate when there is no candidate?

Third, sad you chose to go the "defend incitement to murder" route, especially when there is no proof of "incitement of murder" to defend against.

5. Answers
each of the targeted incumbents were still sitting Congressmen until last week. Did you know that 11 of the 20 targeted congressmen had their offices vandalized in their districts, including Giffords?

You see, I anticipate some lame answers from her, it it was a real interview, but I have some pretty good follow-ups.

4. I don't agree
I can't imagine why those three districts would be more of a target than any other open seat Democratic district in which the incumbent who didn't run for re-election voted against the health care bill. They both seem equally vulnerable to me. And, why was the site left up two months after the election, yet taken down 2 hours after the Giffords' shooting?

Good questions, no?

6. One more: If you claim you did nothing wrong with your Crosshairs map,
why did you take it down 45 minutes after the assassination
attempt??

7. The second question is definitely the weakest of the group
The poster itself distinguishes the 20 districts listed from the other 415, describing them as districts that voted for McCain Palin in 2008 but that had a Democratic representative who voted for HCR. From that perspective, its a softball question.

8. Why would you target Congressmen
by name who are not running for re-elction? Targeted for what? It deifies logic.

9. again, a softball question, imo
She could simply state that the poster identified by district, the 20 Democratic members who were targets for defeat because they voted for HCR and were from districts that supported McCain/Palin and distinguised by color those who already, in effect, had been defeated since they weren't running. It may be stupid, but it hardly "defies logic" to start with a complete universe and distinguish among parts of that universe as the situation changes.

Again, the other questions are much stronger.
