The aftemath of the Tucson shootings: A call for intervention. |
How many people are catching the differences occurring with this shooter and other shooters in the past? In lieu of the chronology of Loughner's personal downfall, from the looney rantings at school, to the failure to be accepted into the Army, the call has been for early intervention to help people who are descending into that dark place.
I'm not saying that's the wrong approach. It's probably spot on, however, I can't help wondering what makes this one different than all the others where the right-wingers were jumping up and down, calling for the death penalty? Is it possible that they see themselves in Loughner? Would we be witnessing this unchallenged call for compassion if the shooter was black?

1. Possibly the fact that he is so obviously mentally ill, rather than... |
...a festering boil of hatred as most of the other shooters have been.

2. I live among right-wingers, and frankly, |
sometimes they sound just like him.
