"The equivalent list on the left"
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 12:17 PM by nxylas
The list of violent rhetoric from the right has been posted several times on this forum, usually with a comment that "the equivalent list on the left would be a short one". Well, Michelle Malkin has now compiled that list. Not gonna link to her blog, but if anyone wants to check it out, the post is entitled "The progressive “climate of hate:” An illustrated primer, 2000-2010".

Looking at it so you don't have to, I can tell you that the list is indeed short (despite stretching back over the last decade), and contains far more protest signs, entries on obscure blogs and pieces of graffiti than it does statements from prominent politicians and media personalities. Also, few of them actually call for violence. Malkin has included a lot of anti-conservative posters and cartoons that are vulgar and offensive, but not necessarily advocating violence. The closest she really gets to anything like the right's violent rhetoric are a couple of statements from Mike Malloy's radio show where he says that he wishes Rush Limbaugh would choke and that Glenn Beck would commit suicide. Such statements are hard to defend, but even here, Malloy stops short of telling people to use "second amendment remedies" on Beck and Limbaugh.

1. Is a right wing wacko is compiling a list of people the left should attack?
They are desperate at best.

2. here's a PITIFUL list a FB "friend" posted in response to my Insurrectionist link
http://townhall.com/columnists/JohnHawkins/2010/03/16/liberal_violence_five_names_you_should_know/page/full/

I'll summarize:
1) The Earth Liberation Front
2) James Chester Blanning
3) The Weathermen
4) Carol Anne Burger
5) The Animal Liberation Front

laughable. The Weathermen were over in 1972 - 39 years ago. ALF never killed anyone. None of these groups WERE IN GOVERNMENT OR NATIONAL MEDIA.

4. I know. The weathermen, who were last prominent when I was in Kindergarten.
Did they put Leon Czolgosz on there, too?

13. Since when have the Animal Liberation Front been regarded as a leftist group anyway?
They are a single-issue group. In the UK at least, they and similar groups are as likely to be associated with right-wing as left-wing causes. In the constituency where I live, a candidate associated with the ALF stood in the General Election, and based his campaign in part on collusion with Christian Right, pro-life activists' smears against the relatively progressive sitting MP.

In Croydon, the BNP (Far Right) candidate was associated with a similarly extreme animal-rights organization:

http://www.hopenothate.org.uk/news/article/1082/BNP-candidate-is-jailed-animal-rights-extremist

And this candidate was right-wing even by the usual standards of the BNP!

It would, of course, be just as absurd to label the ALF and similar groups as consistently *right* wing - most of them are just not particularly interested in broader political issues. But there is certainly no specific association with the left.

And who are Carol Anne Burger and James Chester Blanning?

3. Thank you.
I imagine a person could put together a Google search that would bring up "questionable" stuff--though not much inciting violence--from the far corners of the Internet. Of course that stuff is not in the mass media being absorbed by millions of viewers and listeners as are "prominent politicians and media personalities" Palin, Beck, Limbaugh and the rest.

5. yeah someone gave me a list too.
I don't know where she got it though.

Barack Obama: “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun" (said at a Philadelphia fundraiser)

Bill Maher: I have zero doubt that if **** Cheney was not in power, people wouldn’t be dying needlessly tomorrow….I’m just saying if he did die, other people, more people would live. That’s a fact."

Liberal radio host, Mike Malloy: "Drudge? Aw, Drudge, somebody ought to wrap a strong Republican entrail around his neck and hoist him up about six feet in the air and watch him bounce."

Chris Matthews: "You guys see Live and Let Die, the great Bond film with Yaphet Kotto as the bad guy, Mr. Big? In the end they jam a big CO2 pellet in his face and he blew up. I have to tell you, Rush Limbaugh is looking more and more like Mr. Big, and at some point somebody’s going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he’s going to explode like a giant blimp. That day may come. Not yet. But we’ll be there to watch. I think he’s Mr. Big, I think Yaphet Kotto. Are you watching, Rush?"

Spike Lee: If I got (Condi Rice) a** on camera, I would put my Mars Air Jordans so far up her butt that the Mayo Clinic would have to remove them."

8. Is that it? No signs or anything? No intimidation?
No suggestions of violent action if you don't get what you want?

I'd tell her to try harder. :)

11. And the list of actions taken based on that list?
That is, are there leftist parallels to Jim Adkisson and Byron Williams*?

*Of course, you'll have to Google those names, because they've been totally forgotten by the popular media and wiped away from the public memory.
