Church agrees to not protest slain child's funeral - (Westboro Baptist)
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas church has decided to not protest at the funeral of a 9-year-old girl killed in a shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz.

Shirley Phelps-Roper of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka says church members will skip Thursday's funeral of Christina Taylor Green in Tucson.

Phelps-Roper says the church decided against the picket in exchange for airtime with 102.1 The Edge in Toronto, Canada, and an interview with KXXT-AM in Phoenix, Ariz. on Saturday morning.

13. Those things, and I suspect the passage of the law by AZ that protects funerals as well.
Speaking of broken clocks being right at least once or twice a day...........

I hope other state legislatures follow their example, just this one time.

8. And sometimes it's best to allow people to hoist themselves
by their own petards, too.

They might also have been afraid of being shot or something. I predict that is coming down the pike for the WBC.

4. Oh, so they had to be given airtime on a radio station in exchange, first?
Well, that's big of them.

7. This is a better deal
People who don't want to hear them can *click* turn them off.

Had they been allowed to picket, people attending the funeral would have seen them there.

10. Fuck that.
I'm sick of people rewarding these fools for their behavior. It's like when they gave the damn car to the Koran burning preacher...

11. Maybe the radio stations
did it to spare the little girl's family and friends from seeing them at the funeral.

15. But isn't that the problem we've been discussing the past several days?
That hatred in this country has too much of a voice? Now these clowns get to spout theirs across the airwaves for free.

14. What possible point could they have hoped to make by picketing her funeral?
Edited on Wed Jan-12-11 12:39 PM by lumberjack_jeff
Perhaps extorting airtime was their goal all along.

19. No point necessary. the only thing they want is publicity.
If they were ignored, they'd wither away.

It only proves why conservatives act the way they do. Because eventually the hate gets rewarded in some way.

29. They cancelled that protest because they got some free airtime.
According to the same article: Phelps-Roper says the group will picket the Friday funeral of U.S. District Judge John Roll and at the intersection where Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and others were shot.
