Bloomberg is impressing me. This is leadership. |
|
I'm listening to his press conference, and to his advice to the population. I'm amazed at the details he is conveying to the public about where things stand, and in what way to proceed from here now that the time for evacuation has passed.
Though some of the advice is elementary, I think he wisely is giving it to people who are not used to having to make such preparations, and are in all probability quite scared. He sounds like a caring parent. And he seems exhaustedly pressing on with looking after his charge. He also gave it in Spanish.
Go Michael Bloomberg, two thumbs up from me. And kudos to the entire East Coast in preparation and more power to Fema. President Obama stepped up as well, he did what I expected of him by returning and addressing the situation with sincerity and full recognition of the gravity
With a catch in my heart I remember Katrina which I will never forget and the learning curve the whole country seems to have paid attention to.

1. I've always been impressed with Bloomberg. He always has his |
|
act together, seems to care, and seems an excellent mayor. This is just an observation from a distance, but seems good to me.

3. In an earlier appearance he really impressed me with how |
|
he laid it out. "You may think you have nothing to worry about because you're on a high floor and the water can't get that high. Well you're right, but the higher you get the stronger the wind is and you could have windows blown out." Stuff like that.
I was just commenting that a local radio station was speaking with their NY affiliate and they were saying how everyone has learned from Katrina. No Governors or Mayors wanted to make the same mistakes.
I think all in all, the States, cities and Feds have done an exemplary job!

This is how I expect our government to function all the time. Maybe one day it will.

9. He is slightly less authoritarian than Giuliani |
|
And I do not care for his gun grabbing ways, but he is not the media hound and showboater that his predecessor was, I will say that.

17. I briefly laughed at that as well - BUT - |
|
this kind of show stopper of a phrase is how the ineffective get laughs and attention while the real work they need to do gets swept under the rug.

19. I, or most other people, could do the same thing that Bloomberg's doing regarding the storm |
|
Edited on Sat Aug-27-11 11:33 PM by brentspeak
and do it without leading the call for charter schools, cuts to Social Security, or any of the other billionaire scams Bloomberg has pushed in the name of "centrism".
