CO Dems See Proprosed Redistricting to Unseat Coffman

Days after U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman proposed printing more ballots only in English, Democrats released a new congressional map that would increase the Latino population in his district from 9 percent to 22 percent.

The proposed map had been in the works for weeks, but the two events' coming so close together has Democrats encouraged they might be able to unseat the two-term Aurora Republican.

Coffman doesn't appear worried, although the Democratic map would morph his very safe Republican district into one evenly divided among Republicans, Democrats and unaffiliated voters.

"I'm fine with making my case whether I wind up in a new district or stay in the one I currently represent," he said.

"I think Colorado could come up with a better, more cost-effective standard that might include making sample ballots available or, upon request, sending out a dual-language ballot to an individual voter."http://www.denverpost.com/legislature/ci_18768549
