Cheney disconnects his heart pump battery during NBC interview
Posted on 08.29.11
By David Edwards

Former Vice President Dick Cheney shocked NBC’s Jamie Gangel by removing the battery from the heart pump that is keeping him alive.

“Could you just show me out it works?” Gangel asked Cheney during an interview that aired Monday.

“Sure, it’s got a pump inside that’s tied into my heart,” the former vice president explained. “It’s powered by batteries. They’re good for about ten hours. When you take them out it beeps.”

Cheney then laughed as he disconnected the battery and the device began to beep.

1. Well that I cannot fault the man
patients who have devices like that do develop a ghoulish sense of humor, and he had it to begin with.

2. That's because he has no heart
Although odd that he would offer proof of that fact

4. He goes through that twice a day, changing the battery, so it is
normal for him to be used to it while someone seeing it for the fist time is disturbed by it.

I fault the man for many things but not for that.

7. Except that it shows schaudenfreude.
Taking pleasure from the suffering of others is a common characteristic among the better-known sociopaths and narcissists, including Dennis Rader, John Wayne Gacy, and Ted Bundy.

The one place where sociopaths sometimes have the ability to show empathy is with their own offspring. In Cheney's case, that would explain his unusual (and highly tenuous) support for gay rights.

Otherwise, the suffering of humans is a source of amusement for Dick Cheney, and he appears highly amused these days.

15. Schadenfreude is pleasure from the suffering of others.
Dick Cheney, last time I checked, is Dick Cheney, which means that he's laughing at his own suffering. I suppose you could take that as a light-hearted joke to alleviate the stress of the situation, or as an example of ghoulish humor in the face of death.

22. His amusement was from the stress of the observer.
He wasn't laughing at his own suffering, he was laughing at the anxiety he created in the person interviewing him. He was also exerting a mechanism of control over the interviewer, another fine example of a sociopathic trait, interpersonal manipulation.

He's a sociopath, and everything he did for eight long years shows it.

8. Cheney just needs to go into a dark hole and sit there forever.
Does anyone care about him any more? I can't imagine people tuning into NBC just because of this interview.

because this evil son of a bitch is alive to make jokes about his heart while my sweet mother in law suffered to her dying breath two years ago and is no longer here.

I am sure the families of his victims think that is just a real hoot.
